Surrey housewives eh

I've hit a brick wall due to lack of funds (house sale fell through)

If you need a new home for the parquet, let me know, that would go nicely in my study

I'll ask my groundwork guy about the asphalt

What finish are you putting on the floor?

If you can get away with a reasonable finish a Sika resin is very simple to use and can be poured onto the floor and spread with a board to cover. It will level off well enough for any timber or tile finish.

The benefits are that it fills any imperfections in the slab and it's water proof. I've also used it benhind my skirtings to protect them against damp.
