Spare engine

I'm hopefully picking up a sierra xr4x4 with a 2.8 v6 in it. Is the engine any use to anyone here as a spare, something to build up into a performance engine in the garage, etc?

Anyone have any idea what this engine would be worth straight out of the sierra with 140k miles on it if it's got good compression and doesn't smoke.

Sounds like rather a lot for it, I'd be happy with 100 quid frankly.

I'll see if I get the car and see what state the engine is in and go from there.

I needed a manual gear box (£75) and got a 2.9 V6 free a few years ago (from a local scrappy), put the box in the car (converting auto to a manual) and kept the lump for spares.

Gave it away with car as a spare but wish I hadn't now!
