Sorry - I am sure I have read about this many times, but I can't find the links. I am sure there are many but I suspect I am using the wrong words or order of words!

If you buy a secondhand car from a dealer then you start getting issues with the DPF the next day, would this be something that you could go back to the dealer with? You could argue that this is not fit for purpose would be my argument... but am I wrong?

Thanks

No but the random switch around of the words were clearly the cause of my problem!!

Looking at your other question, unless there is something written specifically in your receipt / invoice to the contrary (eg a trade-sale or sold as spares/repairs without warranty), it would be reasonable to expect that a dealer would rectify any problems that arose within a day of taking delivery

They can't do a trade sale to a private customer, whatever they write.

Usually its important to know a little more background, for example a £500 20 year car has different expectations to a 6 month ex-demo £20k car.

however I think in this case it really doesn't matter- the dealer needs to sort it, or possibly a full refund.

Well its a Citroen C5 on a 58 plate - so not new but not a 500 quid car at the end of its life.
I would expect the garage to help, but they have been awkard from the get go - so I need to check my options.

Agreed. They cannot hide behind the "buyer beware" defence as a trader.

fairly out of date now
but till has good info on the subject
major fault discovered next day, even on a fairly cheap car is generally still grounds for a rejection, but you can agree a different resolution with the dealer,
If you reject it, chances are by the time you un mangle the tax and insurance and the half tank of fuel you probably put in it, you'll be still £50-100 out of pocket with almost no chance of recouping it.

What are the issues with it?

How would you know it's the DPF at fault?

If you are getting depolution errors on the car display it could mean anything unless the codes have been read.

I'll get a code reader on it and check later - Thank you

As you've had it for such a short time, give it back to them and ask for it to be remedied.

Don't start doing things yourself; the onus must be on them to find and fix the fault, not you.

Suppose you read the codes and decide (for example) it needs the DPF cleaning; you present it to them and tell them to clean the DPF and it turns out that it has other problems masked by that fault. They will then shrug their shoulders and say "But you told us to clean the DPF...nowt else"

I sold my Subaru Legacy to a dealer (nice guy) 2 or 3 years ago.
We discussed this very thing - he said all car sales are covered for SOGA for 6 months regardless - and commented what a nonsense 3 months warranty offerings were when SOGA covers it anyway.
