Do you have to declare sick leave from work in the past x years for a "proper" job?

Can the potential employer request any documents that your previous employer has on you (i.e. the notes the occupational health doctor makes?)

I'm thinking I may have made a mistake today...

They cant transfer the occupation health information as thats private.

Most employers will ask how many sick days in the last year.

thats what I figured. Not as big a mess then as I thought it might be.

What happens to those notes when you leave your current employer - are they destroyed?

They'll be archived or sent to your doctor I would have thought. Maybe destroyed.

No one else can see them though

Dont forget that your *new* employer may request your sickness record on any Standard reference request though !!

So what's the story? Pulled a few too many sickies at your previous employers or something?

yes, but the sickness record is just how many times you've been off ill/reasons as to why, not the notes the doctor makes?

just made a bit of a mistake in the interview today mentioning something I really shouldn't have.

First time in a very long time I've ended up in a hole which I couldn't stop digging deeper no matter what I said - she seemed to twist the words and ask the questions which wouldn't let me.

Any doctor's or occupational health notes are confidential, your old employer would be in breach of the data protection act for disclosing them.

Your new employer is only obliged to receive how many days you had off, not what for.

Did you claim insanity in your old job??
