points "lifetimescale"

Anyone have the definitive answer on how long points for such things as SP30's, TP10's etc stay on your licence and record for?

Lots of postings here, PH users quote 3 years.
However the DVLA site states 4 years ref: www.dvla.gov.uk/drivers/endorsem.htm



Also, not sure this is a bit of urban myth or not but once I got told it was 3 years shown physically on the paper licence and then another 2 on record at the DVLA so a total of 5 years - the last 2 being an "insurance" type method in which if you committed the same offence after the 3 yrs had expired the original points could be re added along with the new offence

Points for speeding and the like are valid for 3 years but will remain on your license for 4 years. (they can only be used for totting up for 3 years) But insurance like you to declare for 5 years.
I believe all points etc are on a DVLA record perminantly.

Many thanks thats cleared a lot of confusion & worry.

WOOHOO down to 6 now.. and in a few more months I can ask the DVLA to remove them off the paper
