Ford S-Max warning messages on dash.

My wife came home from work this afternoon in her 2007 S-Max 2.0 TDCI.
At the top of the dash was the ESP yellow symbol a car with two squiggly lines and at the bottom of the dash was the message power steering malfunction.
I started the car and within 100 yards the two messages came back so I stopped the car and played about looking at the messages with the steering wheel controls.
The power steering on the car felt normal,smooth,light and with no noise but did notice that the power steering fluid was about half an inch below the MIN level so hopefully topping that up tomorrow will do the trick.
I am not sure why the ESP symbol came on but perhaps they are related in so way.
I hour later I took the car for a 10 mile drive and none of the symbols or error codes came up on the dash.
I will top up the power steering fluid tomorrow but whats happened have they cleared themselves.
