* Not related to my "education" thread in any way.
1) What were your answers you gave to questions asked on why you'd like to join this division when you were interviewed?
2) Were you honest?
My obvious thoughts are so that you could drive fast cars legally but that's not an answer you'd give in an interview. I may be totally wrong of course.
and... I do realise that there are nasty downsides to the job before I get slated.

I joined 'T' in 1984. My board was based on the amount of public order incidents I dealt with. The Traffic Boss at the time was a ardent public disorder man.
Having spent most of the time asking about people whom I had 'scudded', he then went onto other job related stuff.
Answer = Quite a few with examples!
He wanted to know about things like continuity of evidence in relation to road deaths.
Answered to his satisfaction in relation to what it is and procedure to follow.
He also wanted to know why I was chosing to spend my working day tearing up and down a piece of tarmac with a Bic biro behind my ear instead of doing real Police work!
Answer = Because I would rather have it behind my ear at 100mph than at 0mph driving a desk.
He wanted to know why I 'fancied myself as a top driver'! (having only completed the initial panda car course) and what benefit I would bring to his department.
Answer = I was a 21 year old lad with no hope of driving a fast car of my own. I had excelled in the panda course and got a recommendation from the driving school for further training. I also wanted to be of use to the force in something which I thought I had a leaning towards rather than struggle with work that I knew would not hold too much interest.
I told him that I would bring a younger strain into the department (as in those days it was full of old sweats) and would concentrate on nicking car theives and burglars in a fast car rather than in a 'whistle' which I considered to be boring having done 2 weeks CID attachment mostly sat on my arse doing nothing.
I had answers for all the questions which were obviously to the boards satisfaction (2X Superintendants and an Inspector) as they passed me and I went on to do 12 years with 'T' the premier division
I was totally honest. If there was something I didn't know or understand I told them. I was told to do this as apparently "You cannot bullshit a bullshitter"
I was told they have been at it for many more years than you and will spot you a mile off if you do!!! >> Edited by gone on Thursday 20th January 23:37

Thanks pal. I surprised myself really. Although I'm a good 'streetcop'...im not too hot on buzz words or ministerial priorities etc..so had to do some swotting up..
