I'm sure this has been asked before but couldn't find the posts.

Is there any way to prevent the pads sticking to the discs. I only use my car at weekends and recently its been a real problem trying to 'unstick' the pads getting the car out of the garage.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Craig

Leave it in gear with the handbrake off when in the garage.

My Boxster S did this all the time, especially if there was wet weather. I would do as just suggested.....don't put the hand brake on, just leave it in gear.

You could always fit PCCBs Craig
Also you don't get all that nasty brake dust on your wheels then

It makes no difference if you leave the handbrake off because a small drum brake is used for the parking/handbrake. The handbrake does not operate the rear discs. Its the drum that sticks.

I have the same issue on my 993.

Used to get this on my M5 but only if I parked it after just washing it ie wet discs/pads

.. you can either roll the car into the garage slowly enough that it "just stops" in place on its own OR... if you gently rock the car after you get out of it after parking that should do the trick. If thsi is happening all of time even in dry conditions then id get the brakes checked for dirt and crud which may be making the calipers stick

I have the same problem with my 993, but need to park in a car park on a slope, so don't feel entirely comfortable just leaving it in gear...

Even if there is a drum brake for the handbrake, the pads are definitely sticking to the discs since I can see the imprint of a pad on the disc. This happens only when the car is left for a while and the discs get covered in surface rust.

In this case, the disc is covered in rust apart from where the pad has stuck, where the rust is less prominent. This happens even after leaving it for only one week.

Once I've unstuck the pads, the brakes are very wobbly, presumably due to a difference in thickness - is this dangerous, and can I prevent it any way??

Buying a house with a garage is not financially possible, unfortunately...

sorry should have clarified that I don't leave the handbrake on and roll the car into the garage - its the front discs that appear to be sticking

once they free up the first mile of driving they make a right racket and are very juddery - presumably the build up of surface corrosion

never had this problem on any other car I've owned

This happens on my Boxster S - but only after washing as mentioned earlier.

I now wash the car, then go for a short drive to dry the discs...
