Last night driving back along the M4 I was crusin' at about 70 when I suddenly had a drop in revs and loss of power, I changed down a gear and it continued so I had to pull over to the hard shoulder where it stalled. Then I tried to start her up again and all was fine. The oil pressure and temp were fine when this was happening but has now happened 3 times but this is first time i've had to pull over.

Any ideas of what this could be, luckily still under warranty if any serious probs!

I've had similar symptoms from various causes.

To start with, check whether the rev counter continues to read. If not, I would be inclined to suspect an ignition fault.

When it dies, if it will *almost* keep running with no throttle at tickover, or at least sounds as if it was trying, but cuts as soon as you open the throttle, that points to a lack of fuel pessure most likely from a failing fuel pump relay but possibly a duff inertia cut off switch, corroded fuse holder or similar. If you don't hear the pump prime when you try to restart, that would confirm it is a fuel pump power supply problem.

A faulty alarm can cause fuel and/or ignition system problems.

Yeah it "jolts" a bit as the power goes and even with foot down revs stick at whatever level your at for a bit then decrease.

could be as simply as ht leads shrouds not connecting properly
I checked mine and found that the plug shrouds were loose - pinched them with a pair of thin nose pliers
Then the HT lead was split and shorting against the exhaust

New shrouds and HT leads sorted it

If it fuel then good luck - Im no mechanic !

Thanks, i'll pop the hood 2morrow and check that out, was too dark last night. Got a day of it then, change the headlamp bulbs, clean and now engine check too. Then hopefully roof down and away!

corroded fuse holder in my case - the loose one in the loom by the battery.

I too had similar problems. I also had big clouds of black smoke from the exhaust when the problem occurred. Ended up being the air mass flow sensor. I don't want to worry you but htis is about £150 - £200 for a new one.

Could be any number of things - worth visiting a specialist for diagnosis as opposed to replacing every part as that method can get very expensive.
Best of luck and I hope its a cheapo item.

I had my immobiliser fail at the most dreadful times, mid over take on a country road aint nice !! You brake, the car you are over taking brakes, Arhh, very embarrasing. Knowing a "bit" i over rode the thing to get me home. It has three seperate ciruits, ignition, fuel pump and starter solenoid.

Could be the throttle potentiometer. If this is starting to go it may fail intermittently and give out a duff reading, thus affecting fuel delivery through the injectors. Should be easy to check this one.
