is there any way of telling how many times a scanner is used? we have assorted hp ones and people keep asking for more but am sure they're not using them and think its a status symbal thing so want to see how much they are used?

Don't think so, unless the PC software side of things has a counter you can use (don't think my HP does, but then I've never thought to look!)

What you do is go round and unplug all the data cables and then see how long it is before they

a) complain it doesn't work
b) you notice that the have had the intelligence to fix it.

Do this over a period of time and you will get an idea of how often they are used and how savvy your users are

Technically its achieveable but not easily.

You'd need to have some sort of TSR that sits and sniffs.

This would be even harder if they are network scanners.

Actually, why not stop the arguing.

Round up all the individual scanners and flog them on eBay and buy one big network scanner with a document feeder...
