I'd be interested too - we're off there for our honeymoon later this year!

Just a quick word of warning:

But seriously, i'd love to do it, one of these fine days, when I can afford to do it properly. I get the feeling that this sort of thing really can't be given justice on a budget.....

I don't think there are windows on the vehicles we're going on!... but then again, I presume there aren't big sticks to poke the cats with!

Yes, I've heard about the early starts. I've also heard about spiders dropping from over hanging trees... and one case where my friends were on safari and a rhino turned towards their jeep as if to charge it - he very galantly shoved his wife of a few days in between him and the rhino! And no, he's still not been forgiven!

I love the way he winds up the window and the cat drops back so he winds it down again!! He thoroughly deserved it in my opinion!

Went to Tsavo in Kenya and had an adult lion walk close enough to the open top vehicle that I could have reached out and stroked her!! For some reason decided not to! We were also charged by an Elephant and I had some weird blood sucking insect attach itself to my leg. Will definately go again but perhaps to the Mara this time.

I know people who've been on Safari and I'd love to myself one day, but as has been said, it'd have to be with a reasonable amount of money behind it to do it justice - can't really see the appeal of going there student backpacker-style.

Enjoy it! Where are you going? Kenya?

Kenya seems to be the front-runner at the moment, although Tanzania and SA look like strong possibles too. Just doing pre-lim research at the moment so we try and get to the best place to see some "large pussy action"
