Some pictures taken today of the long abandoned Butterhouse tunnel on the old Micklehurst goods loop line between Stalybridge and Diggle, Saddleworth.

The spur off the main trans Pennine line

Tunnel approach (Eastern end)

Stalactites hanging from ceiling

View looking back out (Eastwards towards Yorkshire)

Looking Eastwards from the earthbank at the Western end.

Pile of earth stacked up at the Western end, to prevent anyone entering.......

If you are on Facebook, there is a great group on there for this sort of stuff.

Simply called 'Disused railways'.

I'm involved in railway maintenance/renewals and I love this kind of thing.
