Speaking of self build pcs, I am thinking about building a media pc, something with a lot of storage, nebula card (so I can stream the entire mux output round the house) decent processor ram etc and a living room capable case.

The main use wiull be as a pvr, watching dvds etc. music and pictures

I suspect it will cost me about £750.

anyone built one? care to comment?

There is an article in this months PC Pro magazine which talks about media center PCs and what you need to build one.

They break it down to specific items you need and where to buy them from to get the best deal - I recommend you pick up a copy as it's quite interesting if you are planning this.

They list the cost for a selfbuild - £746 inc VAT

Good luck!

Its just like any other PC essentially.

Radeon gear is better suited to pushing vid/tv images than geforce gear.

Try and get a case that uses or can house a VFD as these make things easier especially when listening to music

Lots of disk, lots of ram

Hauppage make good TV cards.

There are few pointers I can give really, its just a case of suck it and see and what you want it for...
