My brother's gotta go for a Ultrasound urinary tract. Suspected enlarged prostate. Does anyone know if this will involve anything 'internal'?

USS renal tract - no

USS prostate including biopsies, yes.

You said urinary tract, so my best guess is no.

what the doc says

if it's 'just' a renal ultrasound that will look for obstructions and abnormalities from kidneys downwards ...

if it's USS guided prostate biopsy that will include invasive stuff, i presume he's all ready had a digital rectal exam ...

As discussed, nope, US means just that, gel, cold pad.

I've had a few examinations around the urinary tract and confirm:

Ultrasound - Cold gel, pad and absolutely fine

Renal CT scan - Not invasive but they inject you with dye and for reasons I don't understand, it does feel like you've pissed yourself

Flexible Cystoscope - Not even vaguely funny! It doesn't hurt, just very uncomfortable when they squirt the anethestising gel in and generally an unpleasant experience but probably more psychological than anything else.
