Get EOS30D cleaned or buy new tech
Discussion
I've been out of SLR photography for a couple of years now but fancy getting back into it.
I've got a battered Canon EOS 30D that could really do with a professional clean due to dust on the sensor, and considering its now fairly old technology would I be better in investing in something new?
Budget possibly won't stretch to a new 70D, so looking at either 700/750D or go for the lightweight 100D.
Alternative anyone know of a quick turn around camera cleaning/servicing place in Hampshire?

Thanks - looks like a new DSLR might be worth it, I may keep the 30D as a backup as I doubt its worth anything.
Photography is mainly travel, action & cat portraits.
100D seems to be about £300 body only, and gets good reviews for its small size & lightness
700D £450 body only
750D/760D £600/650
70D £750 (£700 after cannon cashback)
So not a lot of price difference from the 750D to 70D, whereas the 100D gets better reviews than the 700D and is £150 cheaper as well.
Look like I will have to find somewhere that has both the 100 & 70 and see how the feel in the hand.
Sticking to canon as I'd like to keep using some of my existing lenses. I may see if the budget will stretch to a new long IS lens as I suspect IS has had a similar level of improvement as the cameras have.

I shot with a 30d the other day, someone had one and we played around putting some L series lenses on it and taking a few shots.
It was very limiting, as its operating exposure zone is very narrow compared to more modern cameras.
I put the Canon 50mm 1.4 prime lens on, and lit with two flashes, triggered in slave mode from the on camera flash.
I was surprised just how good the images could be once lens and lighting were sorted. There were a couple of big issues though, mainly with colour, the red channel was really off, which made getting skin tones right hard, and anything having a large red object in the scene ( red curtain) blew the red channel completely and made skin go green. And dynamic range was way, way off newer camera.
I think you could make a decentish setup for facebook photos on the super cheap by putting a yongnuo f1.8 50mm on it and a neweer off camera flash kit.

However it would still be very limited and there is no doubt you could better results with more modern kit. You might also be surprised how much you can get on ebay, you could get £70 easy if you have the charger and battery.

Sounds like a problem with that particular camera rather than the model in general. If it was that bad it couldn't have been sold.Craikeybaby said:
There's a vast difference in cost between a sensor clean and a new body!
I know - just trying to justify some shiny new kit in reality
Just for referance, this is about the last picture I took with the D30
French invade Gosport by MBBlat, on FlickrThe dust spots on the sensor are fairly obvious.
First impressions - its light, very light. With kit lens its lighter than to 30D body only.
I've not had much of a chance to have a play, but a couple of example images attached, straight out of the camera with no post-processing.
