Anyone planning on spectating at the first TdY?

I'm planning on taking in Stage 1 either in Pickering or up on the moor near Rosedale to see them on the climb. Hoping for decent weather and good crowds!

I live close to Rosedale so am planning on doing a big ride round the Moors to get to the junction at the top of Rosedale near Ralph Cross at about 2 to see them come by. Then a quick pint of Old Peculier at the Lion and a freewheel home down Blakey Ridge. Beats being at work!

Sadly I'm going to miss seeing this as I'm away but 4 lads who ride my local chaingang are riding. Breed 'em hard in Doncaster ! Should be a cracker !

Can anyone tell me the route? I can't afford to get held up, the French thing was a pain in the arse.

You wouldn't say that if your car had to be confined to your drive for three days, losing you three days of work. Someone I know, who lives in the sticks, and unable to walk to the nearest off route parking space far away from home, was not a happy chappie.

Having been encircled by closed roads for a half marathon a few weeks ago, I know how he feels.

Living in Yorkshire I know loads of people who lived slap bang on the route of the Tour de France and none of them had their god-given right to drive restricted for more than one day. Plus they had loads of notice so being sensible, practical types all managed to work around it just fine. I did know one bloke who whinged to high heaven about being 'trapped in his village', which turned out actually meant he had to take an alternative route of 1.5 miles greater distance to get out - the horror!

Not trolling, I need to know if roads are being closed. The chap I mentioned lives somewhere beyond Middlewood. Anyone in good health would have been able to reach his car, but he is not capable of walking that far and did lose three days of income. Talk of "god given rights" works both ways. Do you have a god given right to deny him work?

I get land locked by the Yorkshire Marathon each year. I'm still alive.

As for the Tour, I'm planning on biking round to one of my old haunts and suping a few jars as they come past. May make the ride home a little more fun.

Living in Leeds I was hoping to catch some of Stage 3, but can no longer make it. I was planning to watch on the Cow and Calf climb. Whatever is left of the peloton will be blown apart if the pace picks up.

Let's not forget that being able to drive is a privilege not a right, and that privilege can be taken away at any time.

I used to live on the route of an annual half marathon. Yes, it was inconvenient, and I had to take myself off roster (or move my car the night before). But I saw it as part of living in a community and rather than moan I went outside and applauded the runners. It was only one day a year, after all.

No I don't, but I didn't, so that's ok. I also don't think that he has a right not to be inconvenienced in any way even if that means he might be a few quid worse off, since none of us have that right. And I'm sure that all the road closures were done in a perfectly legal manner, so that seems to clear that up. I'm still unsure as to how he could have lost three days work from a one day road closure without some pretty bad planning on his part, but I believe you, thousands wouldn't.

I live smack in the middle of Harrogate and, surprisingly, managed to get around just fine apart from the few hours immediately leading up to the finish... smack in the middle of Harrogate.

For the TDY, the roads will be closed for maybe half an hour before and ten minutes after (apart from immediately around the start and finish). It will also bring a lot of publicity to the county, the country and a fair bit of income into the region too.

I'm a Huddersfield local so all being well myself and a few mates will be going out on a ride to the top of a local hill to watch them all come flying up, then to the pub!

I think my plan is to take the camper up to the rise out of Dalby towards Rosedale, watch the race come through then head to Pickering to soak up some of the atmosphere and see the race finish on the big screen.

I might yet go to York on Saturday and see what's going on there too, all depends upon what the missus fancies doing. If its just me them I'll probably park some way out and ride somewhere along the route.

I'm really looking forward to this, think it's on Eurosport too. A couple of local lads who I occasionally train with, but always get dropped by, are in the Madison Genesis squad. Seems like a great little stage race.

Not one person in Yorkshire had the route go past them on more than one day for the TdF, I'd tell you to stop being an attention seeking troll but I might as well try and make jelly stop wobbling.

Good day out at the tour today, decided to park up on the Cote du Rosedale 200m from the summit this morning. Enjoyed a cooked breakfast at the roadside before the crowds swelled and the bikes came by. Once they'd cleared, took a trip over to Danby where we caught the remainder of the race on the big screen.
Undecided whether to ride to York tomorrow. Should be quite a spectacle with the women's 5 circuits and men's race doing 2 laps.
