Baby swallows battery
Discussion
I`m a bit soft when it comes to this sort of stuff, so reading the story in todays Mirror about a 15month old baby who has swallowed a watch type battery really upset me.
The poor kid has terrible internal acid burns and will probably be in hospital for a year.
Sorrow turned to anger when I read that his parents "don`t know where he got it from". Parents age? ......18 !! You do the maths.
Am I wrong in jumping to conclusions that these two kids have probably ruined their own childs life because they are simply not mature enough to have their own family?
Incidently, the Mirror didn`t think it newsworthy enough to make their online edition - they`d rather print a load of crap about some sh*tty Z list party.
And i dont normally read the paper, it was laying around in the canteen while I was waiting to load

I stand corrected - they are 19.

And I`m still wound up - I hate it when things happen to little `uns.

A professional couple recently were sentenced for manslaughter when they force fed their adopted son teaspoons of salt.
Desperately sad that this couple could "inadvertantly" take the life of someone so young and innocent. They deserve everything coming to them including the full wrath of the natural mother when she tracks em down
What movie was it where some teenage lad says,
"You need a licence to own a dog but an old arsehole can be your parent!"
Thats a strange story. I saw a few kids who swallowed batterys and none of them seemed to come to any harm. We just kept them under observation until the battery had passed naturally.
I think the amount of acid in a battery is negligible. There is pretty strong acid in a stomach. In LiIron watch batteries the acid is in a colloidal gel anyway?
I think this may be a case of more going on than we know.

With the current blame-culture climate I would imagine there would be a lot of resistence to saying it was 'just one of those things'. Of course, whether or not the battery leaked could make a potential difference as to whether there would be a case to answer.
Sorry. I've got to go ohm now.

Totally agree,
The little people will put anything in their mouths at this age. Short of sitting there all day holding both their hands there is not much you can do about it.
I read an article where a two year old had swallowed a brightly coloured drawing pin thinking it was a sweet, this had caused an infection which eventually proved fatal. How many people would think of hiding their drawing pins?
