Now I know it's probably a long strung out arguement but I was wondering the difference between the Griff and Chims. As I understand they are basically the same car.
Not that I am in the position to get either... yet, but maybe soon.
I see/hear a lot about Griffs getting written off and being lethal in the wet. Where as I don't hear so many horror stories about the Chim.
I'd be looking at 400 on both fronts if I was to go for one.
I must say I do prefer the looks of the Griff over the Chim, but the Griffs do seem command higher prices.

I'm going to go out on a limb a suggest that the chimaera 400HC is the weapon of choice here.
I don't really think it's fair to compare the Chimaera with the griffith. It's like comparing Chelsea Football Club with a fat-arsed Sunday league team.
However, i'll give it ago... a Chimaera has the Italian looks and panache with a British heart and a careful Russian watchful eye, running out onto the pitch with all watching expecting a good result based on sound technique and the will to win.
While the Griffith has just sunk its fourth pint in the local boozer and is waddling out to have a long piss before stumbling onto the playing field.

Yawn yawn yawn.
Chims outsold the Griff by about 10:1. Has a bigger boot, obviously different styling and a dash that is allegedly easier to work behind.
The Griffith is a design classic, and has the award to prove it.
The Griff Growl is in year three now, the Chimps have yet to have their first tea party.

The earlier cars had different suspension setups and rbakes and the chassis may have been slightly different.
after 96 the chassis and brakes are the same.
most of the griffs are 5ltr so maybe thats why they get stuffed more...
the griff was sold in much fewer numbers than the chim so they are rarer and hence command higher prices.
I dont think there were many 4ltr griffs so i'd have thought youd be pushed to find one.
You've got to live with the car so buy the one you like the look of and prefer the interior to...
a 5ltr will be more larery to live with than a 4ltr, so if your worried about lunching it, get a 4ltr and some advanced trg...

IMHO, both are TVR's, both are great cars, one was designed for 'touring', the other wasn't.
The Chimaera in terms of performance is hardly a slouch.
I like the Griff but never wanted to own one, same with the Cerb.
I had the money & options to buy 4.5 / 5.0 litre Chimaeras, but found a 4.0HC that drove better than all the 5.0's I tested.
Haven't found the scenario yet where a 1 second difference 0-60 has really mattered.
It obviously does to all the 5.0 litre drivers cause it's all they drone on about, in between checking out adverts for penis enlargement

The bottom line is.........
Go for whichever you like the looks of best. I've never driven a Griff, but would imagine there's not a huge amount to tell them apart - they share so many parts.
FWIW though, there's many more Chims than Griffs around so that's why Griffs command higher prices.
Both are lovely cars. But what you realy want/need is a Cerb
