Alarm/immobiliser uncertain

I have 2 original key fobs and I think an original system.
1995 4.0 litre
Sometimes it works as advertised to open the car.
However reasonably frequently the first press does nothing (regardless of which button) atall and it's almost as if a press is needed to "wake the system up" prior to it then complying and behaving as I would expect.
Also having parked up at destination I belive I should be able to close all doors, make one press to lock and receiveing a flash from the lights walk off everything secure. However again it seems that not infrequently I stand there pressing buttons to no result before some minutes later it works.
I wonder if it is heat related as I don't ever seem to have a problem on approaching the car in the garage at the beginning of the day?
Can anyone make sense of these symptoms, give any advice or relate a solution to a similar experience?

Mine does exactly the same thing.
Some times works fine, other times doesn't want to talk to me for a few minutes and then it's OK again.
somewhat embarrassing as you walk up the Chimaera in the sunshine, shades on, looking cool and then you can't get into the car.
Just make it look like you're on the phone to the bank manger in the Cayman Islands as you furiously press the alarm button.
Have you replaced the batteries in the key fob?

Mine too, probably the same foxguard system.I can never seem to disarm the immobiliser when you get back in after getting petrol etc, usually do it by arming and disarming the alarm again.
Going to rip it out and fit a toad system later in the year.

You have to turn the ignition on and then press the fob button when re entering the car.
When I first open the car and get in I have to re press the fob after the ignition is turned . You only get a few seconds from disarming and turning the ignition on without having to re-press the fob.
I believe this is normal

Key fob VERY CLOSE, preferably from the front. Like taking a bit out of a horse.
I often don't bother nowadays*. If I'm out it's because the sun is up and the hood is down**. Who actually steals cars? people steal what's in cars***.
At home before closing the garage door I walk directly in front of her and purposefully click her to bed.
* When parking roof down somewhere normal
** I test the doors externally casually with the fob out of site to click and double click at a moments notice
