Just been perusing hsvforum and someone mentioned catch cans. Anyone else got them fitted and is there a decent UK supplier as have seen this one from the US which seems to be well received both on there and camaro5: http://www.eliteengineeringusa.com/elite-engineeri...

a few people run them, you can buy any decent catch can and make a bracket to fit.

Just make sure that the can isn't empty and it does separate the oil from the air by some sort of filtration method

Why do you need one? The Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) feeds fumes and oil back into the intake manifold. The older form of PCV runs off the rocker covers, where there's a bit more oil in the air. A common upgrade (to reduce oil consumption) is to move to PCV running off the valley cover:

Fit the cover, plumbing the pipe into the boss just behind the throttle. Then block off the outlets on the rocker covers. While you're doing it, you might want to clean out you intake, as it gets a bit messy.

Remember that catch-cans that vent into the engine bay will make the inside of your car stink of exhaust fumes. Not sure if they'd be an MOT fail too.

to stop the oil going back into the intake, filter the oil out of the air

The one I posted is a closed system that just goes in the PVC air line. It has wire mesh on the input to condense the oil vapours and recirculates the air back into the intake. Some guys in Oz have seen it catch a fair amount of oil. Not sure I want oil coating my intake and intercooler.

I've been looking into this too and have been tempted to order one of these - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111156171790?_trksid=p20...

Looks good in the photos but that can be deceiving!

I have a Saikou Michi dual catch can. Seems to do the trick (it catches oil), has a mesh inside it to filter/separate and the service/shipping was great.

I have whatever one Gurmeet got for me hehe

I installed it prior to swapping to my FAST102 years ago, so the FAST has always had a catch can in front of it. Really should take a look inside it!

I think you'll find that running the PCV from the valley plate considerably reduces the oil consumption of the engine. I'd have thought that beyong that, only race or knackered engines would benefit from a can.

From all the reports I have seen the LSA does tend to bleed oil.

They all bleed oil. Which then is ingested via the intake and reduces the fuels octane rating. The higher stressed the engine, the more oil gets through.

You really need to get it out before it contaminates the intake. Aussies are know to run large catch cans. In fact Dusan of Duspeed once told me that when he fitted the Dus OTRCAI, he then used the stock air filter housing as a giant catch can, and put a rag in the bottom to soak it up.

Yup - all serious Aussie cars had them. Amazing to seewhat they collect and the thought of all that crap being slowly ingested through the intake!!!!

Where did you order yours from with the diffuser upgraded?

I've found what it looks like here - http://www.uprproducts.com/upr-billet-catch-can-di...

But the one I was looking at buying - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111156171790?_trksid=p20... - doesn't look like it has the diffuser upgrade

Direct from UPR - I don't know what the deal is with those ebay ones, looks like the same canister, looks identical except for the bracket. The diffuser adds more stainless steel wool...no idea if it's $40 well spent...

How much do you drain out of it (say per 1,000 miles)? And what sort of PCV do you have?

Be interested to see how much gunk you're saving from running through the engine

It seems all catch cans are not created equal, Saikoumichi looks like a worthy contender for the top
