Cycle Under Shorts

Hi,

Having ridden bikes for years, and since having bought a roadie 18 month ago; i havn't bothered wearing undershort (come from a MTB background). Yesterday however i rode a 100 miles, and although i'm not too saddle sore, i think my life would have been made more comfortable with some padded shorts.


So what would people recommend??

I've got some cheap DHB undershorts from Wiggle. They seem to do the job fine.

Thanks, but i'm not looking for bib shorts. For clarifcation i don't wear lyrca, i usually wear baggy DH MTB shorts and a tshirt or a vest if its warm, and a MTB enduro lid hahaha. I don't take it too seriously at all....although i do have a full carbon roadie.

I wear MTB shorts with built in liners on my road bike as I'm not quite ready to go fully to the dark side yet.

I have a pair of Endura Humvee's with a shorts liner, and just got a pair of Royal Matrix which are a bit lighter weight (although not really suited to road as they are too long, for MTB summer riding really).

I have a pair of Madison Addicts which are particularly comfy on the road bike, but in reality you can't beat clothes more suited to the application.

Mountain bike shorts tend to be made to be worn over Lycra shorts, most normally either have the Lycra liner built in or a cheap set supplied which you normally replace with better regular cycle shorts, at least that's what I do, have always done since mountain bikes came out.

In recent years moto X kit manufactures have joined the game, I guess they'd assumed cyclists already owned Lycra to wear underneath. No way would I ride my MTB off road without Lycra underneath - sure fire way to loose a bks letting them swing when on a bike.

I wear Sugoi padded undercrackers underneath my baggies in the summer.

Swap over to their fleece backed 3/4 bibs in the winter. Still under my baggies

I used to think exactly that.

Then I tried wearing bib shorts under baggies!

I started out with baggies with padding built in, but the padding died long before the shorts themselves, which was annoying.

Then I tried baggies with separate padded undershorts (which are going to be made out of lycra come what may), but I used to get problems with one or the other layer tending to bunch up and get uncomfortable.

Then I moved on to bib shorts, and they're perfect! Everything stays exactly where I want it, and unless I strip off my baggies on the trail, nobody knows that I've got bib shorts on, as they're completely invisible.
