Why does my watch keep such terrible time?
Discussion
Some advice please. I have a 10 year old TAG carrera automatic watch, purchased from new. I wear it less and less as quite frankly, it keeps terrible time. It looses about 5 minutes a week or so. It was purchased from one of those sparkly duty free shops at Singapore airport airside so I assume it's not a fake
Is it faulty, in need of a service, am I doing something wrong or is it just abit rubbish?
Many thanks in advance

If utter accuracy is required, as stated above, switch to ugly watches. If a few seconds a day either way is OK, but five minutes a week is too much, try a service. Be warned about Tag Service though, they erm, are perhaps not the best customer service oriented company in the world. It will go away for a long time, they will probably replace the face with a luminous green one, and they will charge you through the eyeballs for it. You might want to seek indy advice

Many thanks for your advice, maybe a good independent can look at it for me...any recommendations in the London/ Herts/ Essex area?
Contact fellow PHer Dominic H - http://www.hackettwatches.com/hw/contactI take my watches to him and he gets them serviced.
Before assuming service, has it always lost that much, or was it ok to start with and got worse over time? If it's always been the same then it's quite likely that simple regulation would sort it out. A quick run on a timing machine would confirm which it really needs.
As others have said, you'll never get quartz accuracy from it, but 5 mins a week (40ish seconds a day) is far worse than you should expect from even a cheap mechanical. Especially as a loss rather than gain. a couple of minutes a week or better should be easily achievable and under a minute a week isn't unreasonable from one of those in good condition.
