I'm looking at buying a 3lit diesel Audi A4 Cabriolet, auto, on an 06plate, with 96k on the clock. What should I be wary of? Any suggestions ?
Thanks.

Hi Jonty,

They're generally quite well behaved but a few things you'll want to look out for (in approximate order of expense)

Injectors - leave the car hot idling for as long as you can and then pull away. If it's smoky/smelly doing this you're looking at ~1500 for a full set of injectors. When they're really bad they stink of fuel all the time when running.

Make sure the roof is smooth going up and down; you'll see the very occasional micro switch failure or coding problem but the pumps can fail and are expensive (refurbs are available now).

Crap radio reception - antenna is in the boot lid and known for failing.

Arm rest lid breaks.

Glove box lid breaks.

Soft touch finish wears off certain controls (particularly if the owner has stabby fingers and pointy nails).

Rattly side window rubbers; they dry and shrink a little with age. A little smear of vaseline often shuts them up.

If it's got a wind deflector make sure it's in reasonable nick. They often get thrown at the back of a garage/loft/shed and can suffer broken clips/torn netting. A good, used one is cheap on ebay mind.
