I often flirt with this idea of dropping meat (not fish).

Anyone here a veggie or pescatarian? I am just curious as to how it changed the way you feel. I don't really eat much meat and I am a big fan of Quorn products and I eat a lot of fish.

I know PH has been going downhill for a while, but letting veggies in?

Having said that, we're currently having meat free Tuesdays and Thursdays, mostly so I can remember what something other than cow, pig and black pudding tastes like.

I've been a pescatarian for 6 years. Ethical and health reasons.

Lost of a load of weight and felt much better for it, forced me to start eating healthier food. All the research shows pescetarianism to be the healthiest diet with the longest life expectancies.

Yes, I still miss bacon sandwiches though spaghetti carbonara was the worst thing to lose.

I've been veggie for 18 years. I stopped eating meat for ethical reasons but generally veggie food can be healthier too. I can't stand fish but my wife is a pescatarian and eats lots of it which annoys me sometimes because I don't like the smell either! My kids eat meat; when they're old enough they can make their own choices.

Understand the health bit, what're the ethical reasons? Just curious.

I don't want to contribute to the horrfic and unnecessary suffering the meat industry is responsible for. I'd have less of an argument against someone who only ate game.

There's the whole enviornment issue too: when you look at the huge amount of resources (fuel, water, grain) it takes to produce meat.

Still eat dairy which isn't much better and the fish industry is destroying the oceans at an alarming rate. I try to minimise dairy and source fish from sustainable sources.

I've been a pescatarian since about 3 years old (32 now)- would have been total veggie, but was forced to eat fish to supplement my diet.
I don't have an health issues, and have normal cholestrol, blood pressure etc. I found I had to be quite careful with my diet, as I tended to substitue protein for carbs, so if left unchecked, I can put on weight. I went to 15 stone, but then I'm 6ft 1, so not that big.
With regards to Quorn, I was advised not to eat it more than 3 times a week - the reason being it can affect your testosterone levels. Much like soya milk can..

This is nothing more than anecdotal.

I've gone veggie plus fish for lent the last two years, my girlfriend too. We both can honestly say we've never felt so good, more energy and generally cleaner.

Some if that in truth is linked to cooking better food as you forced too, plus you don't eat low quality meat sources like sausages etc.

My advise is try it!
We still eat meat but much less and only proper cuts, like chicken breast or steaks. We eat little pork, except the occasional roast.

Been veggie for 31 years. Hard to make any real judgements of the benefits but I would say that all the men in my family had previously had lots of angina, heart attacks and cancer, loads of history of it and apart from a lung disease (which is a separate issue) my health is good.
At 51 I have near perfect BP and no furring of my arteries, completely different to father/uncles.

My wife's been a vegetarian since she was 13 (I think) she's now 43 so 30 years without meat or fish. She does eat dairy, cheese like something out of a Park animation.

She is in fantastic shape, 5'10" 10 stone and eats what she wants when she wants and is rarely ill. Okay, she's a bit weak but she is a woman. She's also an identical twin, her sister eats meat and has been a lot heavier in the past. Her sister's now got control of her weight again but she has to try where as with my wife it just comes naturally.

My wife also looks younger than her sister but that could be down to her sister having two children and a more complicated home life.

I eat meat but not great quantities, I eat what I want when I want it and am a bit chubby frown
