At last got round to give the old girl a hot steam clean underneath. Borrowed the kit from a good garage friend of mine and lifted it up to 5ft with a portable lift.
30 odd years of grease oil and grime, and OMG underneath the chassis was in pretty much perfect condition!
This is mainly due to a couple of minor oil leaks over the years that took me ages to get round to fix. One being the front crank shaft seal which is still weeping, and as you drive it's been blowing down the underside and preserving everything.
So all oil leaks aren't bad and do have their advantages.
Hopefully this will get rid of the horrid oily smell that I get when she warms up.
I was a little worrid she wouldn't start after, but fired up first time and blasted home faultlessly.
Need to give the engine bay a clean as the oily water did blow up is little.
One tip, if you are going to do this.....you need to dress like a North Sea Fisherman going out in a gale, and do it somewhere other than your own drive !

Roger, did you take any before and after photos out of interest? Would be good to see how effective it was. Wedge on display at the Dilwyn show this bank holiday Monday if you're in the area!

I should have (but didn't as I was on a tight window of opportunity), as there was a thick layer of oil/grit/mud and is now a nice light grey colour, back to the original powder coating. The gearbox and engine block look alot better too. As the chassis tubes are round it was difficult to get completely all the way round, and I was careful to stay away from delicate areas, ie, fuel tanks and any electrics. To be effective you want the jet to be nearly 100 degrees Celsius!, to be effective on the oil and grease.
It's a real messy job, but one I've been putting off for many years.
The main benefit is that I can now crawl under the car to work on it and not come out with my hair looking like it's been over gelled !

I'll see what I'm up to on Monday, and try to pop over. I'll let you know.

That cracked me up!...

I think there is a place in North London who steam clean's chassis..I was going to get Delilah done after her blow job..I have an oil coated chassis at the moment but i think its coming from the oil filler remote..That will need sorting before it dumps the lot on a road and i get nicked for causing a major accident..And possibly end up with a seized motor...Wah!!

Yeah... it wouldn't hurt to paint on a layer of clean oil - to keep the nasties away.

That juice is there for a purpose ;^)

The advantage of having a small oil leak. Had exactly the same on an old chim. The chassis was spotless.
