Any views on the above watch maker and specifically the Copleland range?

Good brand, rarely thought of because the usual culprits get all the attention.
Buy for the right price, and you'll be happy.

FWIW, I think the Capeland Flyback is a beautiful watch ... never held it though.

Nice watches, excellent pedigree but (as PJS says)slightly overlooked compared to the mainstream names.

In terms of quality, consider that they're part of Richemont Group (IWC, Cartier, Jaeger, Vacheron etc) and they simply don't operate in the plastic throwaway market like certain other groups do.

I bought an 18ct one recently. Small face, more suited to a boy or woman but lovely item to look at. Very nicely made,

It is but at 44mm it's way too big for something that's trying to be elegant and dressy.

Well surely that depends - on whether you are 6' 8" and 20 stone or 5' 0" and 6 stone?

You wouldn't rubbish a £5k suit because the owner had a 40" waist.

I can see how you could arrive at that idea but watches are not like clothes, made to fit. They're more of an accessory or jewellery. In the same way as a gigantic diamond ring looks gauche on a lady or a massive mobile looks comical I view big watches in the same vein. It's just an opinion smile

You're either way behind or light-years ahead of the fashion smile

Still get surprised occasionally when I get in one of the "big" watches from back in my early repair days (original G Shock / Citizen Promasters etc) and see how tiny they look compared to a lot of modern stuff.

I don't do fashion I just know what I like. smile
Mostly vintage but I see Rolex and JLC offer several pieces of less than 40mm wink

I've had an auto Capeland since the mid 1990's a great looking watch & still is, but deffinatly a brand I would be looking to buy second hand.

That's a very pretty watch and Baume et Mercier is a great brand with a good reputation. Apart from that Richemont doesn't produce rubbish.

At £2200 I would go for it if I didn't have enough chronographs and others in mind beside that.
