changed the water pump and coolant temperature sensor to ecu, but still overheating, water pouring from expansion tank and temperature guage going over 100 degrees and my fans never kicked in chim is serpentine 400 year is 96 .there is not an airlock as I bled the system refilling from the swirl pot.any ideas.

Does the top hose get hot? did you check the thermostat is opening?

sorry Paul. but there has to be an airlock somewhere, have you used the pipe which is blanked off just on one side of the plenum. When the heater knob is turned to hot are you getting hot air out?

yes I do get hot air, I filled the swirl tank taking off the brass hex nut

forgot to add mark that I bled coolant from bleed hole on top of rad ,will check am simon if tophose gets hot or not

Simon is probably right about the stat could be sticking, check your pelum hose too.

if the fans aren't kicking in then check the otter switch at the bottom of the swirl tank.

short out the connections and the fans should come on. If they do then the otter switch needs replacing. If they don't you need to check the fuses/relays/wiring for the fand

Just to add to this when you do this you should feel the fans moving hot air if your up to running temp if its cool air you have no circulation through rad (duff sat or clogged rad)

ok I shorted the fans out and they worked so question is ,is the otter switch knackered or could this still be a stat fault, if so which is the best way to remove it and test it.

The fans will do sfa if the stat Is not opening

peter i think you are wrong there because surely they will be getting a direct live feed from the ignition as the fans came on directly after switching ignition on and stat would have no time to operate.

If the otter gets hot it turns the fans on
It can only do that if the stat opens
If it opens the top hose will get hot
If the swerl pot gets hot and the fans don't run
The otter is fubard now you have done the hot wire
If the pot dose not get hot the stat is up the spout
