[996] simple (hopefully) question re: battery cut-out

I now have a 996.

My car often goes unused for several weeks (as I consultant I'm often away from home), so I'm used to the 'flat battery' phenomenon. Before I go away I disconnect the battery, manually lock the car, and all is fine.

Enter a new ride, the 996. Frame-less windows and the whole 'window moves down slightly on door opening and back up on closing' introduces a problem.

If I open the door, turn ignition to position 2 (to avoid alarm going off on batter disconnection) and then disconnect the battery, the window is now down slightly and I'm afraid that if I leave the door closed in this state then water will leak in when it rains.

If I open the door, and wind the window up before disconnecting the battery, then I can no longer close the door properly, and I'm afraid to just use brute force and ignorance in case I damage the door window or the holding fixtures :-(

I'm sure I'm not the first person in this situation, is there a simple fix?

You can tuck the window in when closing it from the outside by pushing on it to close the whole door, just as you'd do if it was frozen in winter.

However, as you keep it outside I'd suggest using a solar charger from Maplin as it'll keep everything working and keep the battery in better condition. You may have to fit a lead to the fuse box (by your right foot when in the driver's seat) as the lighter socket is ignition switched but it's not difficult to do.

My 996s had permanently connected lighter sockets. Were pre-facelift ones switched?

Do you mean the window is frozen in position i.e. won't go up or down? And you close the door by pushing the window glass 'into' the rubber seal? (I've never had a car with frame-less windows so have never done this).

I was wondering whether I could close the door with the glass in the 'lowered' position and then holding my hands on the glass 'persuade' the glass to raise into the seal by 'pushing' (sideways as it were) on it?
