Can not stop the engine.

Chimaera 4li 1999. I can start the engine on the key and runs but when I turn the engine off and take the key out the engine does not stop, I have to stall it. It must be a stuck relay, has anyone got any ideas which one and were it?

Agree with QBee, sounds like your ignition barrel is broken causing ignition to remain live regardless of key position

Yes I can see why you would think that but after stalling the engine there are no ignition lights on, you have to put the key back on and turn the ignition on to get the to start the car in the normal way. Tomorrow I will take the ignition cowl off and manually disconnect the wires to check though.

I removed the cowl, disconnected the ignition switch by pulling off the plug off the back when the engine was running and it kept on running. I found on one of the diagrams on page 79 in SH second addition, that there is a relay in the circuit. it seems that it is in the passenger foot well on a fly lead off the wiring loom to the ECU, there are 2, one on a black base and one on a blue base both are the same number Bosch 0332014112. Black is Ignition, Blue is fuel. The ignition one had a bad connection relay to base so I cleaned it up and gave it a shot of WD40 put it back and now it all works as it should.
