I need to track my driving history right back to when I passed my test for a job application, but the DVLA website only lists current convictions. I've been driving for 15 years and have had a number of points in my younger days but I can't remember what the dates were, is there somewhere I can get a record of everything I've ever had? I tried the DVLA on the phone but I might as well have been talking to the neighbours cat for all the use they were!

Help appreciated smile

Can't help with your main question, but in case you are unable to find the details and need to argue that it shouldn't affect your application, I doubt they should be asking you about anything over 5 years old.

The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 says (broadly) that job applicants don't need to disclose convictions that are spent (unless an exception applies, like e.g. jobs working with kids). Employers shouldn't ask about spent convictions either.

According to this, FPN's are usually spent after 5 years.

Even if it does fall within the law somehow, it's certainly a strange requirement on an application!

if it is for a security clearance form, I would be inclined to have a best guess, but say they are approximate due to not having records.

Depending on the clearance level there is usually a disclaimer about the RoO not applying...

It's for the MOD Police, the application is quite specific about it, I don't want to shoot myself in the foot by guessing and then they look and find I was miles off. I've had (I think) 7 convictions for speeding, but I can't remember months or years for most of them as I only have one on my licence at the moment, the last one was about 5 years ago now!

I think they are looking for honesty, and anything that can be used as leverage against you by a 3rd party.

be as honest as you can and explain the vagueness?

The data is likely to be available. In serious cases I've seen DVLA records (including non endorseable offences) going back decades.

Perhaps a subject access request to DVLA?

This sounds like the best way forward - they will check what you say anyway, so they're looking for honesty. I would contact the place you are applying to and ask someone there to confirm what they're looking for though.

As with all things, they are looking at 'Good Character' and honesty.

Same as Visas for other countries.

I obtained Australian Permanent Residency a few years ago and the good character test is an interesting one(for migration purposes, ROA doesn't apply but specific spent convictions aren't disclosed-merely hinted) the Police Clearance certificates show 3 categories of criminal convictions;
Current.
None (no trace)
No live trace (naughty, naughty but not serious enough to bother anyone)

If you put no convictions and then have found 'No Live Trace' it means that from the start, you are a lying fooker and will fail the 'Good Character' test.

Honesty is always the best policy with these things.

Depends on how long the OP has available to provide the information for the application.

The DVLA will have 40 days from when they have proof of ID and cleared payment for the subject access request, usually £10, to provide the information. They are not allowed to ask you why you need the information.

OP you might have to have another conversation with your neighbours cat wink

Is this SC clearance or DV or something else? If SC it's only a general brief search, if DV then yes they will go through everything. The easiest thing to do? Ask whoever is handling your application for a straight answer. It's what I did, and it got me the answer straight away.

Pretty much as long as I'd like, but I'd rather get the application in sooner rather than later, don't fancy waiting 40 days for the info back from the DVLA frown

I don't actually know, it's only the initial application so I would guess it's a SC. I've emailed them to ask but I have to wait upto 10 days for a response

This might help..... http://www.disclosure-online.com or look for disclosure scotland.

I have a PVG disclosure done as I'm working with kids but it pulled up my driving convictions back to 2006, think I had only one before that but it's going back over 15yrs. Pretty sure a criminal check can also pull your driving details. Have to pay for it tho.

Charging a £20 admin fee for a free service on the official website. Probably best avoided.

Sorry I'm not looking for an argument but can you explain? Both sites I have listed you have to pay for. If not I will be screaming at Disc Scotland for all my payments laugh

Hello trouble!

I've put in a FOI request on the .gov website for my license history, so will see what they come back with. I've actually just applied for a PVG Disclosure through work, but the last ones we got through didn't have driving convictions on them
