Is that what happens when you watch the wrong motoring programme? hehe

At least it gives you a chance to put the longer ratio (0.63?) 5th gear in while you are at it.
Nice quieter motorway cruising.
And top speed will go up from 165 mph to 209 mph if the wind resistance will let it (and your balls don't go looking for a hiding place)

I was talking to someone about motorway driving recently, and what a drag the noise of 3000 rpm in 5th was, but said I liked the ratios generally. He said that one could always fit a longer 5th gear, and said the standard was 0.8, but there was a 0.63 available. I think he said (whoever "he" was) that you could find it on the website of whoever had taken over the manufacture of the Borg Warner gearboxes....Tremec?

have the 0.63 in the car but only would suggest it if you do long trips on the motorway to keep revs and noise down. can´t find the old emails of 2011 but if i am not wrong it had been coming from an old mustang or camaro....

According to the hand book it's 073 for 5th. Where is the best place to buy a new gear set from. USA looks the best bet at the moment. 5speed.com.

Bit of both I think. 5th always had a bit of slack in it.

0.63 is too long. It's like changing from 3rd to 5th as if your missing a gear and not a pleasant drive IMHO. If you want better cruise change the diff'.
Baz, do you want the same to happen again? Dig in and change to a TKO600 as the T5 is on borrowed time with your power. Also IMHO.

If you are doing over 120mph when you change in to fith who cares how fast it is going to accelerate from that point .

Fith as always been a cruising gear .

If you look at the page I linked on the Tremec website (they are the people who now make the T5 gearbox), they state that it will handle up to 300 lb ft of talk. argue

For those too lazy to click on a link, here it is:

T-5 5-Speed Transmission
Introduced in the early 1980's, the T-5 has become a highly evolved, extremely compact and versatile 5-speed. In its rich history, the T-5 has been installed as original equipment in a variety of vehicles, from pick-up trucks and SUV's to the fun to drive 5.0 Mustang.
Today, the T-5 still enjoys life as an original equipment unit in several overseas applications, while continuing to gain popularity in hot rod and performance markets. Dollar-for-dollar, pound-for-pound, the T-5 is the smoothest-shifting, and most reliable manual transmission for moderate horsepower applications.
Easily accepting up to 300 lb-ft of torque, the TREMEC T-5 is not only durable, but offers easy operation and a deep overdrive – making any hot rod, street car, or kit car more enjoyable to drive.

"Moderate horsepower solutions.......!"

This will get you even more annoyed.....

"Our most compact transmission
300 lb-ft. of torque capacity
Extremely lightweight – just 75 lbs. dry!
Ideal for moderate horsepower builds where space is limited
Excellent drivability – light shift effort, smooth shift quality
Exceptional fuel savings – 0.63:1 overdrive
A favorite of many weekend cruisers, street-rodders, and kit car enthusiasts"

Remember there are 2 types of T5 ours being the WC. T5 is strong enough for all your N/A girlies. Only when you come to the dark side will you need to upgrade. hehe
