I see that Land Rover have this week announced that they are putting the new Ingenium diesel engine in the Discovery Sport. Does anyone have knowledge about whether they will put the petrol engine into the car? I understand that they offer a 240bhp petrol engine in the Evoque.

Probably, especially if the government ban diesels.

I have asked the exact same question and they could not really answer it. They even make the car in question for export markets. For me the new diesel engines are too slow and the mileage I might do not sufficient to not have an issue with all the tech for Euro6.

The only thing I can think of is that they are developing Ingenium petrol engines so it may wait until then.

PS I have a Disco4 and would happily have that as the V6 S/C that they sell elsewhere too.

We have the 4 cyl turbo petrol engine in the US in Disco Sport and Evoque. The engine gives great performance. We also had it in the LR2 (Freelander). We sell the LR4 (Discovery) with the 3.0 V6 S/C petrol engine only.

We're getting our first diesels in the FFRR and RRS later this year.

Would not bother getting excited about the diesels. Europe is wedded to them, personally the petrols are much more attractive.

I looked at the French Land-Rover specs page today and in the list of engines there is a Petrol 4-cyl listed for the Dicovery Sport but when I went into the configurator for the HSE and HSE Luxury it only gives the choice of two diesels, one manual and one auto.

Switzerland gets the petrol, and 5 seats is standard with +2 an option.

We're hoping to test-drive one in the near future as I'd prefer to avoid diesel. Coming from a turbocharged Subaru Forester the petrol would be a serious improvement on fuel economy.

I test drove the diesel a couple of weeks ago and it pulled away quite nicely if that was the reason you were looking for a petrol.

EU can't get away from diesels now, they've pushed car manufactures too far down that route

I had a lengthy talk with Land Rover about this.

The polite but not very helpful woman didn't know the answer. She came back to me after asking the question of someone with a silly line about it not complying with UK regs. It's sold in the EU so it will comply.

I thought EU rules meant you were able to buy any EU spec in any country.

Her advice. Buy one in Ireland.

It's crazy that the car I want is made here in the UK, in RHD but that I can not buy one. Crazier still when they are built to order with minute specification changes to each customer's requirements.

The problem with ordering one in Ireland is that not being Irish I'm unlikely to get a finance deal there.

I approached a Dublin dealer and their lack of reply suggests they're not interested.

It's crazy to think that as far back as the 1970s in the pre-computer pre-bespoke build era that my aunt was able to order and take delivery of a LHD U.S. spec, Seedish-built Volvo from a dealer in Newcastle.

Yet now when you can spec up and more or less order a car from your smart phone 'Computer says nah'

I had the same problem with my disco2 commercial. i wanted a v8, but LR insisted it couldnt be done even though they come down the same line, and they just dont fit the rear seats..

so had to put up with the td5. lasted 2 weeks before it went to JE Engineering for some tweeks and 200bhp.. its still a crappy diesel though... and would be so much nicer as a v8, and not actually saved much in fuel over the last 106k miles as the td5 only does low 20's and I usually got 18-20 out of the previous v8

I live in Ireland , petrol 4x4s are a big no no here. Theres no petrol discovery sport listed on irish website. Dealer should have contacted you though - probably Stuarts ??.maybe try malta or Cyprus ? wait a while and maybe buy demo model ?

Been discussed before - the petrol engine (auto) is listed in the Specification drop down on the Land Rover Ireland website. However if you go to Pricing, it's not listed there.

Oddly, it does highlight the eD4 Diesel Manual as "available from late 2015" but there's no comment against the petrol engine - looking at it you'd have no reason for thinking it might not be available.

Nice idea but getting it home won't be as easy as a quick trip
across the Irish Sea.

We order a 2-litre diesel from my local dealer in the end.
