Active monitor suggestions please

I'm replacing a home studio set-up of Samson Servo 100W amp + B&W speakers. I've decided to change the layout and to simplify = active monitors on wall mounts, or possibly shelves if there's a sensible choice.

This is mostly for home recording (rock, blues, pop, etc) with occasional stereo playback duties. The room is about 5m x 3m, not too bright, and the SPL does not need to go super loud.

Any suggestions in the £250-300/pair budget? I don't mind buying used.

You may be able to pick up something in the Adam Audio F series range in budget, these will be big enough for your room and are front ported so can he placed reasonably close to a wall. I've heard some little genelec monitors which were impressive too, can't remember the model though.

You're doing the right thing going active, I was a compulsive box swapper until I got mine, can't see myself ever changing them.. Maybe for a bigger model :-D

Thanks chaps. The Focals seem to be £175 each and there are few used ones around.

But the Adams seem to get good reviews and there are more used ones for sale - including the A series. One of the Sound on Sound journos is local to me and is flogging a pair of A7 monitors, so I'm going to check those out first.

I've got a pair of Yamaha HS5's linked to my PC. Sound quality is superb and they fit on my desk so not that big.

Yamaha msp5,s are good,i could hear lots of sounds in certain songs i had never heard before with them,worth a punt,good detailed monitors,fair weight to them too to be reassuring.

I did buy the Adam A7s. Very happy - the presence from the ribbon tweeters is amazing. It's very easy to pick out individual detail in voices and higher registers. Overall, I think they are quite polite-sounding, which suits me fine. Might not be right for anyone wanting instant wow-factor.

Excellent choice. I found them a bit "harsh" on the top end, but that'll be the Ribbon tweeter. you wont go wrong with Adam Audio

I think the KRK Rokit monitors fit your budget. I listened to a pair (cannot remember which ones) in a mate's house and I thought they sounded really good for the price.
