When you have a nitrous malfunction the first rule is to never restart the engine until you are certain the nitrous and fuel are not sat waiting in the pots and inlet.

I forgot this rule yesterday.

I bet that made you jump! I wonder if the carbon fibre plenum would have remained as intact? Is it just the throttlebody butterfly and elbow that are damaged?

That's two plenums (pleni?) blowing themselves up in recent weeks. I saw you posted just a picture of the damaged butterfly on Facebook and I couldn't figure out what it was. Makes sense to me now

Back in the late 80s, a mate with a Beckett tuned RD400 Yamaha was playing with nitrous for straight-lining; did something daft and had an explosion - we pulled an expensive Lectron carb out of the door of the workshop where it had embedded itself after passing our heads at mach 3, and after breaking the throttle cable to escape...

Yes I had a becket exhaust on a RD125 and a Honda MB5 50 with a H100 fitted . . he lived in Hucknall Nottingham if I`m correct .

Ah, that makes sense. It was two years ago and he had just supplied me with a new 5 litre engine and camshaft for several thousand quid, and we were having teething issues with getting the running right. The suggested fix was red top injectors, 20AM AFM and a 72 mm plenum. I guess that explains his generosity, though I have always found him a generous guy. Last time I saw him he helped me find a misfire that wasn't of his making and wouldn't take payment.

My old one still with the 500 badge on is sitting in my workshop if you need one to get you by for a while....
