Hi,

So the Boxster S is less than a year old. Bought from new, drove it out of the dealers in June 2014

Over the last year its been back about 8 times for various rattles. Its taken a number of test drives for the OPC to identify and fix the problems. I reckon
OPC have burnt through £100 worth of petrol on the test drives so far.Fuel tank never topped up, but OPC always tells me to return courtesy car with the same fuel i picked it up from. Have asked OPC to do the same with mycar since second time it went in, they refused

1) Dashboard was rattling on the drivers side - Now fixed

2) Rattles from the roof from the passenger side - "fixed by OPC" Still rattling- Car back with OPC

3) OPC discovered that pax side speaker was emitting static even when uplugged from the amp. Speaker was replaced

4) Seat belt housing was rattling drivers side - Fixed

5) Roof down vibrating trim passenger side - Car back with OPC

6) On certain road surfaces there is the sound of static/rain when the roof is up and doing under 30 MPH- Car back with OPC

I have had 2 tt roadsters, so am used to the cabin noise, but the build quality on my 981 seems to be very poor.

So a few questions

1) Any other 981 boxster owners have an issue with build quality and the roof in particular?

2) Is it time to throw the toys out of the pram regarding the car with the OPC?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated

After 1700 miles (CGTS) now I've noticed a sharp squeak from dashboard / windowscreen bottom facia almost every time I drive into a bumpy road, very annoying, it seems like a small stone chip hitting the windowscreen.

I haven't talked to my OPC yet.

Hi Noel - initially I'd write a letter to the dealer principal - pretty much copying your post above and see what response you get. If you get poor or nil response write to Porsche, personally I wouldn't bother with Porsche GB and find a contact at Stuttgart. When was asking questions when I was ordering and getting shrugged shoulders response I wrote direct and got a response detailing the answers I requested within 48 hours and a humble apology from the dealer! Different issue I know, but I wouldn't hesitate to write to the factory if you don't get satisfaction from the dealer.

Regarding our own Boxster GTS - (touching very large chunk of wood) no issues, rattles or squeaks whatsoever, 1,300 miles driven.

So I picked the car up today ( Saturday)

OPC had assured me the roof down rattle had been fixed along with the one that sounded like static.

Drive it out of the dealership, put the roof down only to discover the rattle has got a lot worse or they have somehow managed to feck something else up whilst fixing the first rattle.

The rattle is constant. So turn the car round and go back to the dealer. Go to the service department, the service manager says he cannot spare the time to go out in the car with me to listen to the rattle.

The OPC will not take me car back in as they say they have done everything possible and when they test drove it "it was fine"

So they are now escalating to customer services at Porsche UK HQ. I am due a phone call on Monday. My OPC wants the car taken over to Calcot for the HQ technicians to look at the car.

Safe to say at this point, I would never buy another Porsche.

That's a shame poor service has now spoiled your ownership experience and very bad show by that service manager, too busy to help out a customer...dangerous ground that one I'am sure Porsche would be delighted to hear that.

Hope you get everything sorted to keep you in the Porsche fold.

Equally sorry to hear the news. Not good. I moved from Aston to Porsche for better reliability so hope your experience is a Friday car which they now remedy once and for all. You have my sympathy. A great car like this should not be spoiled by rattles!! If it is any consolation a friend of mine had a new Carrera 4s which took a while to sort but Reading OPC got there in the end. Shouldn't be a problem in the first place though methinks...!

What's the spec of the car? Size of wheels and is suspension the base suspension, PASM or lowered 20mm?
Overall the build quality of the 981's seems pretty good. Big wheels, lowered suspension will eventually cause rattles I think no matter how good the build quality. Considering one myself new and prefer to buy a few years into production and will go with the naff looking 18's probably to help longlevity (and hopefully avoid rattles)

20 inch wheels and its the base suspension.

It has done 7,500 miles since June last year.

I think that's very good advice and personally I would do the same as the factory will have the clout to slap the dealers wrists.Very dissapointing when you spend so much money on Porsche only to have the experience ruined by constant niggles.

Anyone got the address for the factory? I had a look at the Porsche Website and a bit unsure which is the best address

Also should I send it to a certain department?

So the latest update

Service team leader calls me having spoken to HQ.

Guess what he told me....

Was it

a) bring the car back to us and let us take another look at it

b) Porsche UK will pick it up and look at it

c) take it to another OPC and get them to have a look at it.

It was option bloody c!! There then follows a " discussion " and now the car is going back to my OPC at the weekend.
