VW Golf GTI or equivalent
Discussion
Im looking for another little toy currently drive a VW Scirocco manual which is fun but thought i would mix it up a bit. I am thinking of keeping this but maybe getting a Golf GTI DSG to have fun in on the weekend, i do like these cars look really smart i think. I have thought about a focus rs, still a bit out of my budget though, maybe an S3/ BMW but couple of years old still seem pricey.
I have even looked an a new fiesta ST, but still think the Golf id for me.
Looking for your views good and bad please guys and any help you might be able to offer, Thank you in advance.

Golf is far too similar to the scirocco to be used as a fun car.
Lots of far more fun cars out there.
Get something RWD or AWD.

I wouldn't consider a Golf Gti DSG as a fun weekend car at all, especially considering you already drive a Scirocco.
You need a proper weekend car; Elise, Caterham etc.
Thanks very much for your input so far guys just the help i was looking for, budget is around 15k but I dont want something too old as would most proberly get problems all the time, I was thinking of something say 2/3 years old, Fair point too about the Golf being similar to the Scirocco thought the DSG would make it fun, but as you say possibly not. what cars did you have in mind for weekend fun?

Go RWD for a driver focused experienced , and why not a MX5
Or if in budget I have no idea a Toyota GT86 or Scooby version , lots rave about the benign handling and totally chuck able experience
I am Biased to a S2000 , but these can be twitchy esp in the wet , and very tyre and suspension set up sensitive. Suspension bushes can be a real headache if seized and engine servicing history very important , the engines are very highly stressed , normally aspirated 235 BHP @ 9000rpm and mine hit the red line virtually every drive but been totally reliable to 77k miles , early cars drink oil pre 2004 up to 1 litre per 1000 miles is norm . An engine allowed to run low will fail as one that has seen the red light. But plenty have been driven like they have been stolen for 150 to 200 k no problem . I know one that has done 35 track days driven very hard to the redline all the time now on 150k miles . oh the other bug bear are sticky brake callipers , the brakes are very good but prone to this problem at high mileages. 08-09 engines , there were a few failures apparently due to crank shaft end float, new engines fitted.
Hmmm I don't find mine twitchy and driven it for 15 years now , if your sensitive it does let you know a bit and will sort it's self out if allowed to , only spun it on and airfield , even then had trouble to get it to go around more than once
LOL , it was a me that was at fault lack of commitment . Last year on PH day out I followed a TVR Griffith 500 he would leave me on straights, around corners I would start to catch and he had to wait until he was In a straight line before he could wellie it , I had the full beans in from every apex in 2nd and third and would reel him in
But geometry is the key here , and it's all adjustable on eccentric cam mounted double wishbones , camber , caster , toe if the dreaded bolts are free , Mr Honda neglected to grease them during assembly.
