2004 fatality figures wanted

Has anyone got the fatality figures for 2004 yet?

Arrive Alive have been crowing in the Welsh papers about their success again in 2004 but the report says that between 40 and 50 are still being killed on North Wales roads. So it looks as if there is no improvement.

They claimed success for their activities in 2003 but deaths rose by over 11%.

Unfortunately they'll be crowing about KSIs, but I'm sure we can rely on you to inform the N Wales press about their statistics fudging

I'll see if we have any up to date stats when I'm back at work in Feb ( ), but I'm not sure if it's done by calendar or finacial year, so they may not be out yet.

I recall they are formally published around June/July but they must know them on Jan 2.

Not so, because the K includes death within 30 days from the injuries.

It has been noted that SI have fallen in many areas wheras K has not. Perhaps there has been a change in the way SI is defined, or the hospitals are not treating casualties that would be SI anymore, perhaps the local surgery tapes up some of them, or the medics on scene do not send them to hospital?

Und there was biggest scandal in France ast year in "France-Soir" because France ignored the 30 day rule und claimed less Ks und SIs - claiming the this was down to the `1000 scams. Bof alors! They 'ad to revise ze figures!


I gather they wait 30 days to 30 January und then compile the returns und forms - which are then checked, audited, tweeked, checked, tweeked und only published "when they are sastisfied they have the "right" results!

Und yes - I think the medics have redefined "serious" in some respects. If life threatening - ist "serious" und if "not life threatening" ist perhaps not necessarily included und coded as "serious".

Und then again - we had the thread about not getting out of way of ambulance und so was if it meant getting pinged by scamerati. That little bit of time could mean difference between bleeding to death, having heart attack, hypothermia, und being taken to hospital as SI where they may just pull through it - as opposed to a B.I.D.!

(Und I speak from experience of being an SI.....und I owe my life to a traffic cop!)

Unless things have changed Police stats for HO and HMI followed the financial year with figures for the year to end of March beginning of April.

Allow a month to collect, another to send to the BIG Collator at HO and hence the publish date of June/July.

I suspect LA Traffic Managament will also send fiqures of SI, dead to D of T under a similar arrangement.
