Been looking at early V12V's (09/59s), have a budget of 70k so only a couple even close to that budget at the minute so maybe I need to wait a while until they lower a bit further. The same budget would get me a nice 2-3year old V8S with sportshift. Ideally I wanted something with a bit more performance, currently driving an RS4 and although I'm yet to drive one, I'm not sure if the S is much quicker.

That said, I don't want to get caught up in numbers but It's very confusing finding the correct 0-60 time for the S. On http://www.astonmartin.com/cars/the-vantage-range/... it states 0-60 as 4.8 seconds(same as my RS4). In the brochure it states 4.6 seconds, on used listings on the AM website it states 4.5 seconds and on wikipedia it says the S goes from 0-60mph in 4.0 seconds.... what is the correct 0-60mph figure for the sportshift Vantage S?

I'm going to arrange a test drive of the S shortly, no V12's close by. By given the choice? Thinking about it now, the S will lose me more money over the same period probably, being newer what I'll lose on that, I could have bought the V12?

Personally, if you are that worried about 0-60, look elsewhere. GTR maybe.

My mate has an RS4 and I have a V8 4.7. I would say the RS4 is quicker, or certainly easier to drive quicker

We have chatted on another thread.....V12, stop stalling!

Seriously, the 0-60 times are irrelevant unless you still play Top Trumps or you want to annoy Barry'd up Corsa owners in the pub. You don't buy a Aston for this, you buy it for what the car actually is. All Astons can shift but its how its does it and the fact you don't need to do it 100% of the time which makes owning one worth it.
The golden rule to any V8 owner is never test drive a V12. So if you can afford it, buy the V12 before they start to go up in price or are harder to get.

And Justin above makes a good point, you may not be "right" for a Aston. If you are wanting to hit the 0-60 time every time you leave the lights then you will look a berk in a Aston.

I'm not worried about it but there's a bit of difference between 4.8 and 4.0, so I was more unsure of what the correct figure was.

I agree there is a variation in print.

The first Vantage was quoted by AM as 4.9 secs. (that is 380bhp).
The V8 in 4.7 form (420 bhp) is 4.7 secs.
The V8VS I think is 430 bhp and the automated manual gearbox may slightly cut the 0-60 time.

Only the V12VS has a quoted time under 4 seconds.

Interesting, but I find just a few seconds of full throttle equals illegal.
Aston ownership is certainly about more than just acceleration times, but you can bang your passenger's head on the seat back if you want to.

The V12 will do 20 mph in 6th gear and go onto very close to 200mph
I have a V12 now and it's very quick. Don't drive one

V8S is a fine car, and s big step up on a V8. But find the right V12 and get that.

I've had the standard 4.7 V as well as the S version with the S being a slight imo improvement over the standard 4.7……….you compare the timings of the Aston against that of a RS4 which is interesting as I've recently had one of those as well and in comparison I felt the RS4 was a lot quicker then the Aston.

Now that said I do think it was probably closer than I first thought and the difference being highlighted by the superb DSG gearbox in the current Audi and the overall power uptake.

Having also had or have had both the V12 manual Vantage Coupe and the newer and my current steer the V12S Vantage in Roadster form I can tell you which to try and go for with a
decent background to enable me to offer my 2 bobs worth.

Take the early V12 Vantage Coupe in it's manual form as it's a corker and a decision you will not regret,it has all the grunt you will ever need and a dreamy smooth gearbox to boot.

You budget puts you firmly in touch with a seriously good motor car, have a peep @ www.top555.com as you might be pleasantly surprised by one on there thats with in haggling distance.

I had a good look at that car only last week before it went on the website whilst their on other business and can vouch for it's present condition in which it is being presented ………Stunningly loverly.

Hope that helps a little and best of luck with your test drives……...thumbup

thanks for that, that's helpful. There's that one and a silver one in cardiff aston for £75k,being an audiophile the red one is missing the all important premium audio so I would probably try for the silver one if it came down to it.

Check out the Red one before you go down the Stratestone route as you can always shove a Harry Moss job in when you get fed up listening to that V12……...music

Trust me the Red ones a belter and if I could afford it or get away with it I'd give it a home, but then there's her in doors to contend with first……curseand that could get scary.

Both V8S and V12V are great cars - I'd personally go V12V route as it's a better car to drive and you never tire of the performance smile
It's also a much better financial choice - V12V have seemed to have levelled out from a price perspective and you'll lose less in depreciation on one vs newer V8S. In fact prices are holding up so well at the moment it's stopping me from changing to a V12VS.

Definately drive a V12V before deciding - it will make up your mind for sure

I managed to do a back to back comparison at Aston Wilmslow of a lovely blue V8S and a fantastic lightening silver V12 V
Had a 4.7 V8V manual for 3 years, and didn't like the sportshift in town on the V8S. Too jerky even when lifting slightly on the gear change. It was great on the open road but the V12V was a different car within a mile I had said I want this one. And have never looked back. Yes it was more money but so much better in so many ways. Two salesmen have told me the manual V12V is going to start to increase in value as time goes on. So go for the V12. You won't regret it.

Another vote for the 555 car.
Looks stunning and has the superb lightweight seats. Sod the sound system. I think you'll find the no cost option 5935cc lump up front is the only music you'll need.

And magma red is ultra rare on V12V. According to my register I only currently have 7 UK cars in the colour!

As other have said don't drive a V12v unless you intend to buy it.
I fell into that trap and just had to have it. It felt completely different to my older V8.
Much easier to drive, much more torque and, well, just more fun.
As for waiting for the price to fall, good luck with that.
I was watching prices 6 months before I bought mine in February last year and for the last 12 months or so. The prices have remained constant around the 70-75k mark.
The red one below 70k has been on sale for ages and still not shifted.
Just to give you an example. At one point last year there was only 2 V12vantages for sale on the AM website.
In fact, at the moment, there are more Aventadors or Ferrari 458s for sale than V12 Vantages.
Good luck in what ever you decide in anyway.
