I received an email earlier from someone asking if I would consider selling a .co.uk and .com domain that are currently registered to me.

I am willing to sell them as I no longer use them, and assuming this isn't a scam email of some kind, how do I go about it?

I've no idea what they might be worth, I suppose so long as I get what I'm happy to sell them for, then that's all that matters, but I don't really know what to do next...can anyone give any pointers?

Agree a price and get your registrar to do the transfer for you once you've been paid.

or follow this guide : http://www.nominet.org.uk/uk-domain-names/manage-y...

Nice and easy then. Are there any pitfalls in doing this? I mean, is there anything I should look out for when going through this process with regards to being stitched up by the buyer, considering I don't know them?

Cash first, transfer second. Getting a domain back can be difficult.

It's normal for the buyer to pay upfront and then receive the domain, so your risk in that scenario is they send a dodgy payment, you think it's cleared and release the domain only for it to bounce later.

Is the buyer UK based? How much are we talking?

I've used escrow.com in the past when I wasn't 100% sure about the buyer/seller, cost is fairly insignificant to safeguard a 4 figure+ domain.

At the moment I've no idea where they're from, although as they want the .co.uk domain I assume they're from UK.

I've absolutely no idea what to let them go for, so have told them I want £500 for each domain and see what happens.

I had this a few years ago, looked completely legitimate but in the end turned out to be a scam. Can't remember details but clocked on just in time. (I'm positive there are genuine buyers but I think there are certain middle man type sites that take the risk away)

Had someone in the US approach me about one of my domains a year or so ago.

Eventually agreed a price but he wanted proof it had been transferred before he'd send the money.

Righto. Needless to say he disappeared when I suggested it the other way round.

second the option above - we have used escrow.com to transfer a 5 figure domain for a client - worked well, though does take a little time...
simply agree that buyer pays the fees - or blend them into the cost
