Hi,
Just viewed a chim and need some advice on a couple of things. I intend to get Rob Ingleby to inspect however want to save my money if these point are obvious show stoppers:

what should the oil pressure be on tick-over
how much is a new screen (small chip and scratches)
very small crack (1 inch) on wing under bonnet

Thanks all advice gratefully received

Get a 500. Nothing less then that. The 400 and 450 are bit slow.

Oil pressure at tick over IIRC 35ish & 45ish on the move.

New screen £50 if covered on insurance!

Crack? I'd be more concerned as to what caused it!

Yes the 500 is faster, but I doubt anyone who knows anything about cars would describe a 400/450 as a "bit slow".

When you wrote that I bet there was a voice in your head saying "light blue touch paper and run away"

Just wanted to see your reactions. I have driven the 4.0 and ok it is (kinda)fast but i missed the grunt of the 500. A 4.0 run smoother and more civilised.

That's very high. At tick over 10 to 20. On the move up to 45/50 at high revs.

A fourlitre is a faster car point to point on the really twisty stuff.

Corin. I've seen you post that theory before. Why would that be?

Oil pressure should be around 30-45 on idle depending on wether the engine is warm. A new screen is whatever your excess is on your insurance for a replacement (£60ish).. A "small crack"!? ..how did it get there..?

If in doubt really do get it inspected.. I've seen two quite new Chims over £20k lately with low miles on them hiding accident damage. And as for earlier ones... some of the chassis and wishbones recently have been

Cheers

Sounds a reasonable point - the 5 is only quicker if you can exploit all the power, the more power you have the harder this is to do. If you have the skills then the 5 ought to be quicker, but I bet you'd find not by that much in the real world.

My griff is a fun car. I do not care to go fast from a to b. I ride enjoy my car. But sometimes when i push the throttle i think"holy shit this car rocks". That is what is missed with the 4.0. Just emotional thing.

And must say too, when driving my TVR i am never in a hurry so why should i go fast from point to point. Just enjoy and take it easy knowing that if you want, "you have the power". Knowing that it is there is enough.

Mine's getting better now the new Toyos are bedding in, when they were new I really noticed a lot more drift and oversteer on the same roads that I had wired in the four litre. I'm hoping this can improved with better throttle control and in an effort I have booked a Ride Drive and a trackday.

Might be the car but I'm hoping it's me.

Make sure you get the Ride Drive guys to teach you about anti hijack techniques in a sainsburys carpark like I did a few years back.

Still smile now remembering pulling J-turns in a Griff 500!!!!!!!!!!!

Oil pressure depends upon how accurate the guage is and (catch 22) what the guage says, shouldn't be taken as too accurate.
Windscreen is £137 RRP plus VAT; plus delivery (which can be expensive as it is so big); plus maybe new surround trim; plus fitting.
The crack might be repairable as part of a front end respray to hide the stone chips (£500-750), or it might be a lot more. Post a picture perhaps? Or why not ask the seller to repair it for you as part of the deal?
