Does anyone know what happens when you pull those little red handles in the footwells to open the doors in an emergency?

Does the glass drop down or do you break it when you push the door open?

If you have to use them are they easy to reset or does it have to go back to the dealer?

Just wanted to know in case a curious child / mechanic / car valeter decides to pull the "bonnet release catch" one day.

They just release the door but do not drop the window's. Be carefull you can break the glass if the windows are not down an you putt the handle

They were designed so that if the power fails, you can get out of the car (accident etc etc)

Thanks for the info so far.

How about reseting them, do they just spring back ready to be used again or are they more technical than that?

They don’t need to be reset, they work just like a manual door release. If you want to test them just wind down the window and pull, the door should pop open - just make sure the glass is down unless it’s a real emergency!

Beware of MOT mechanics who think they are bonnet releases and therefore tug away at them. Mine was in at a main dealer, who sends cars to a local MOT place, who managed to snap it off. Fortunately, the driver's door was open at the time, so no harm done. Just bemusement from the mech that he was pulling this handle harder and harder - but it apparently didn't do anything.

Fortunately, the car came back to me with a new cable on and an apology from the dealer concerned, so no harm done - just put it done to experience, or lack of!

Your window wont break, just push it, the worst that can happen is it unhinges the carbon/plastic plate on the pillar.... (dont it many times myself in the past).... although on a cerbera....

if you pull it with the window up it will badly damage your A-post pillar and paintwork. So then it's a nice trip to the body shop.

Get some power to the battery first.

cheers

Don't want to start an argu...... "constructive discussion" between you guys but it would be interesting to have a less ambiguous view!

Is it the "Dr Pepper" worst that can happen, or a nice trip to the repairers?

Either way - in an emergency I am sure I just wouldn't care as long as driver and passenger can both get out....
