Is this some sort of joke,a very average 350i wedge on car and classics up for sale at £15995 that he states is a fair price,i feel hes been a little bit misguided in believing its an seac.
I believe this is a 390SE which does make it quite a rare car. All the same, the price is high compared to other Wedges in the current market value. It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay I guess.Tony. TCB.
I remember it for sale last year, nearly took the decision to go over to Guernsey to see it but the cost of flights and a weekend away didn't make sense and then there was the hassle of re registering it etc. Anyway this guy obviously achieved it, it does look nice but a little ambitious.

Looks very nice indeed.
Anybody know how much it was for sale for in the channel islands?
I vaguely remember it mate...I think it was around 8-9K??...Does seem to be a bit over enthusiastically priced...The engine looks like it needs a fettle...If someone is prepared to spend 16K on it instead of a well sorted 450SE then thats their bag...I wouldn't .Anybody know how much it was for sale for in the channel islands?

If it this one in the topic above, it was up for sale for £6250, at the time. It doesn't mention a price in the topic but found the old advert with google.
Dave.

I spoke to the guy selling it last year and there was a question mark of having to pay VAT or not when bringing it back? Don't know how the new owner went on but there would have been additional costs on top the sale price plus transport etc. Flights over to view the car weren't ruddy cheap either which is why I left it and bought mine.
Makes the 400 about 5 ads below seem cheap at 1/2 the asking price http://m.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C610747

This is true but there are a few clauses in the importing of vehicles from non-EU to EU countries..Even within EU..There are secure registration schemes..You can even claim duty back from a return i:e if it was exported in the first place.Transport?..£200 from Scotland to South london...
Flight...Could of bought a one way and driven it back once on blighty..Cheaper than transporting it...How much to import a 6K car?
https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=...
So lets say 8K including purchase price and costs..Still doesn't warrant double bubble..
Again what is the value of a Wedge 390SE?...What do the insurers say?....It should be in relevance across the board and please don't say its whatever someone will pay...That to me sounds like they are ending up in the hands of idiots and not enthusiasts.
This seems more realistic to me...
Sorted 280i = 4-5K
Sorted 350i = 5-6K
Sorted 350SE = 9-12K..Only 25 made..Again as more become lost this should reflect in the value of those remaining.
Sorted 390SE = 9-10K
Sorted 400SE = 10-12K
Sorted 420SE = 10-12K
Sorted 450SE = 12-15K
If someone has a sorted Wedge with a bigger engine fitted then that should still command a good price..
Modified Sorted 400SE to a 4.4/4.6. = 12K Upwards
Modified Sorted 350i to 4.2/5.0i = 12K Upwards
I also think rarer cars should be bracketed accordingly and also the SEAC's.
Prototypes are the rarest so they should command the highest values.
Again these values will vary enormously according to mileage..Storage...Originality...
I seriously think that they should be an updated structure of value surrounding these cars and we are the people who should do it.
Ziga
Hi Ziga, wasn't trying to justify the price in my post, just highlight the cost of getting it back to UK which is probably around what you suggest and probably what the car was worth.
As i said, looked at this and had contact with the vendor who was a member on here, i think he had reduced the price at the time knowing the issues and needing to attract buyers.
Agree with your estimates on values for sorted cars, mine will be right once the paint is done and i would put it at that even though it will have cost me more.
Anyway good luck to the vendor, even though ambitious, as you say rare cars and we only ever got to count count around the high twenties known to this site, more out there i know its just finding them.
As for the 350SE, i don't see the numbers dwindling further as most of them are now in good hands are they not.

I don't know why prices get so bashed on our wedges. I have seen so many cars go up to multiples of what they used to be; my wife's old Porsche 912 is now worth eight times what it was ten years ago, any older V12 Ferrari way up, Jaguar XKEs, older Aston Martins, even some wretched American muscle cars. Notice how late Tuscans and Griffiths have had pretty serious rise, and frankly I love my wedge more than my Griffith.
I honestly wouldn't sell my wedge for what the car in the advert is asking.

Hi mate...Don't worry I'm a good post reader...And of course ALL input is important...I personally have seen the prices creep up in the last few years..Okay its not massive but i still think its realistic, And there is of course the possibility that prices could suddenly rise to a peak but i don't think it will be caused by people asking unrealistic prices..People selling on a notion ..(Or was it "People sailing on an ocean")..of "Oh thats what someone will pay so thats what it must be worth" will not levy up values..Don't forget that TVR has been unfortunately branded with a big unreliability badge...Sad but true...Yes all of the classic cars have had issues and are known for some of them but the poor ole TVR got trashed big time so its hard to attract investment in the form of future enthusiasts..Yes they are a money pit if you compare them to "Some" modern cars..Most classic cars are a money pit but most of them are only taken to shows and not really driven so they become a static object that represents movement..Well you can always imagine you are driving it...
Me...Id rather get in it...Turn the key..."Cough splutter"....FFS!!!...Turn the key...Ta da..Big smile off we go...By the way that was me coughing and spluttering not the car...

Don't fret though cos every dog has its day...Whenever any stranger talks to me about them i always give the Wedge a good wrap..People always say..."Bit unreliable aren't they"...I say "Yep...Just like some people i know" ...I think its a good thing having a value for money Classic V8 hand-built British sports car..We are the privileged ones...Im proud that i own one and love all the baggage that comes with it..Without it it would mean nothing...So go ahead.."Break up the chain and sell off all the links"..Buy a modern car and a pair of fluffy slippers.
The Wedge shape will return to cars one day and the Wedge will probably fit right in...But then it will be just like any other car ..So lets keep them alive in the best way we know..Driving them....Repairing them...Driving them...Cleaning them...Driving them...Repairing them...Cleaning them...Driving them...."Wax on...Wax off...Wax on...Wax off"...

That's part of the problem though: the Tasmin almost sank TVR in the car's early days. The wedge look was on its way out and the Tas's proportions weren't exactly spot-on... and they still mostly aren't, so I don't see why Joseph Q. Public would suddenly take to it. The S, Chimaera, Griffith (especially the Griffith!) and Cerbera moved the game on styling-wise so it's not a surprise they all still have, and find new, keen followers but with the Wedge cars I think it'll always be a niche market.Even Ferrari has models that haven't appreciated as much as some of its others so it's not unique to TVR.
I still worry that so-called car enthusiasts still have an eye on the potential for a profit. I bought mine to drive, not to line my pockets.
