N.W. dyno shootout for modified Porsches?
Discussion
Recent jobs and a few phone calls from potential new customers has given me an idea: is anyone out there interested in getting together one Saturday for a modified Porsche dyno shootout?
The idea would be to collect similar cars together on the same day, then test them all and compare results (eg: 964RS, 993RS, 930/965, 993TT, GT3, etc..) so that barometric/temperature effects and the like would be to all extents cancelled out. Depending on numbers it should be possible to test 4 or 5 cars per hour, so I expect we could cope with 20-30 cars in a day. There would have to be a nominal charge per run of around £30 but I think it could be a useful excercise to prove (one way or another) what modifications actually work. One minor detail is that we could not test the 964C4 since we have a 2wd dyno, whereas the C4 993 & 996 variants can all have their fwd safely disconnected for the test.
Erm, I suppose I would not be averse to testing other cars (like TVR/Ferrari/caterham) should anyone want to organise their own groups, although the I may have to charge a little more if the cars are not as easy to test as the 911's.
What do you think, are you a true Piston Head ready to lay down your bet???

I'd be up for that Colin. When did you have in mind?
As it happens, I am dropping my car at 9m for a re-map anyway in 3 weeks time.
Edited to say.....so how about it clubsport, adamt, DeR, Guy, Henry? It would be great to compare Guy's GT2 to some of the DMS modified cars.

OK, the best bet if for anyone interested to email me direct with the subject title "dyno shootout XXX" where XXX is the model type (eg 964, 993, 996GT3, or what have you) and then include all the relevant details about your engine mods in the mail. I guess that it would be useful to also test a few standard cars on the same day as a reference point, but I really want to avoid testing 20 standard cars at a time as I cannot see the point.
The motivation behind the move came after we tested a 993VR last year that had an £8000 3.8 conversion with cams and ecu and made 278bhp, i.e. less than standard. This is not the only example, but I will have to spare the details of the better ones.

225 miles each way is too far for me to come unforunately.
I did have a din 70020 rolling road check,,4000 miles ago...For comparison purposes 295.2bhp & 262 ib ft with a smotth torque curve. Nothing special, but fine for a 60k miles 3.8 993 lump.

My MK1 GT3 is having a Manthey Racing upgrade done at the moment they are quoting around 395 bhp, new exhaust, revised ECU & encapsulated ram air intake. What about testing the day before the Oulton Park track day? March 4th
Russell

I am up for doing a session either the day before or the day after the Outon Park track day. Since the day before is a Friday it would be a bit of a nightmare journey for you guys darn sarf coming ap the M6 but it could be done as far as I am concerned.
We have limited indoor workshop parking overnight, so the sensible plan may be to hook up with the Scottish contingent on the track day, stay over Sat night at a hotel close to oulton then pop up to Warrington in the morning for the session?

Colin,
Do you mean do the rolling road session on the Sunday 6 March? That would suit me.

on the Saturday night and stay over...provided we can get secure parking for the cars.
