I am looking to do a brake refresh now this summer due to totally frying them at Blyton on Friday. The car has standard solid rear discs and up front it has 887/888 calipers with 283mm plain discs. As far as I can remember the pads are just standard OE quality.

The rear calipers are looking dire so I want to get these refurbished or replaced and get new discs and pads.

The front calipers I bought new and fitted around 3 years ago and are still in great condition, so am just looking for a pad and disc upgrade.

The brakes were fantastic on the road, but after 2 trackdays they have lost all bite and are now slightly spongy. I have replaced the fluid which has helped but I think i have glazed over the pads. Blyton was a very brake heavy track and they were starting to stink after only 5-10 minutes on track, and were almost undriveable on the way home hehe

What do you guys recommend pad wise for road and track?

Iused to use a Hawk pad that was more track focused which was excellent. These are no longer available for my calipers so I never use a different pad

I use a DS2500 which is a really good all-round pad.

The advantage of the DS2500 is that it gives very little dust on the wheels.

I have used these on the track for the last 18 months, that in conjunction with Halfords racing brake fluid and decent quality discs I have never had any problem at all.

The DS2500 also warm up very quickly and therefore are suitable for the road.

Agree with Phazed.

I did the other track day with you (at Cadwell Park), also a heavy braking circuit. I am on ventilated, grooved disks with Hawk pads......not surprising on the pads front as I bought the calipers and pads off Phazed.

I changed the disks from plain to grooved and the improvement in stopping power is noticeable. And my fluid is dot 5.1.
Rear disks grooved, and pads are Ferodo DS2500

No brake overheating problems, no loss of stopping power, no funny smells, and no problems on road use.

I upgraded my solid rears to vented which makes a big difference or you could get larger rear bells and use your original calipers .

Nothing wrong with the 887 888 front setup except they are are heavy .

Thanks guys, rear brake upgrades look like a minefield so I think i am going to get the rear calipers rebuilt, and then get grooved discs all round and DS2500 front and back if available.

Next up does anyone know what pad part numbers i would need? hehe

ETA are these the ones?

I thought that but its simple

Standard later vented discs with the wider claw calipers are far better .
