Sitting in the barbers in the middle of Brum today, around 1 o clock I suppose, when I hear a low, single engine aeroplane. It sounded like it could have been a Merlin, it was certainly a very large and powerful sounding engine and the character of the exhaust note was definitely 'vintage' rather than modern. I couldn't rush outside to look for obvious reasons...

...did anyone in Birmingham see anything?

I saw and heard it, didn't look anything too fancy though.

I heard the noise and looked up, but it looked like a smallish cargo plane of some description, high mounted wings, light colour if not white.
Not sure if it was single engine or twin as it was just a quick glance which was almost side on.

Looking on the playback on flightradar, this went right over Birmingham City Centre at bang on 1pm at low altitude

That could have been it I guess, I did think it was something a bit bigger, but it would match the piston engine sound which made me look for it in the first place.

The BBMF Dakota did a flyby at the Jaguar factory today as I was driving past.
