Oh dear. 40 in a 30. Did they catch me?

Last speeding fine was 1986. I generally don't speed.

I managed to go through a Gatso on an empty single carriageway road at 6am yesterday.
As it flashed me twice in the eyes I looked at the speedo and was doing about 40, in a 30.
Annoyed with myself. Not careful enough. No excuses.

The camera was mounted on the other side of the road and was the old style square yellow box type.
Lines painted on both sides of the road, both sides of the camera.

About 12 years ago the same happened at 3.45 am in the dark, and I never received any notice.
Nearly crashed on that occasion thanks to the blinding flashes.

Will I get a NIP this time?

Yep, if it was one of these -

then they may flash as you go towards them but I'm pretty sure you won't get a ticket*.

  • Other cameras are available!

Very unlikely. AFAIK the Gatsometer BV is not Type Approved for forward facing enforcement.

Thanks for that. It rather made my morning, getting flashed, when the only reason I had gone that way was because my car key battery appeared flat and I thought I might get one at Sainsburys.......who weren't open furious

I will be passing the same camera (slowly) on Monday and will take a photo to post on here.

Thanks Dom, interesting, but the limit was clearly marked as 30, was on the Cambridge inner ring road and that camera has been there since Winston Churchill made his first cigar. I have lived in the area since 1971 and have passed it many times - for those who know the area, it is between the Cherry Hinton Road Budgen roundabout and Addenbrooke's Hospital. I was simply not watching my speed closely enough with no other traffic around at first sparrow fart. Anything else around and i would have been compliant with the limit
