Yes you exchange details. It's like you've admitted fault not getting his.

Do exactly that then let them sort things out.

Yes, you should have got his insurance details. Do you have his name and/or registration?

Insurance claim for a broken door mirror?

They'd have a field day with the amount that get broken on a regular basis around here.

^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ This

You really don't want an insurance claim for something so trivial.

That's fine (and the common sense thing to do) if both drivers agree to it.

But OP gave the other driver his insurance details - this should have been reciprocated.

A simple door mirror can easily end up cost almost £1k nowadays , my Skoda one was best part of £500 including spraying etc and the glass didnt even break

Don't confuse being billed £500 for a door mirror equating to said mirror costing £500.
wink

ETA This is another reason to drive a LR Defender. New door mirrors are £12.50.

Using insurance? Really?

No wonder all our premiums are going up for petty claims such as this!

Was gonna say it can depend on the car. If its just a housing & glass & the glass has broken then maybe anything up to £100 if the glass is heated (so not worth worrying about insurance as below most excesses) but if its something more modern with the side indicator in the housing & thats broken then could easily be a grands worth of damage. Yes it might not actually cost this but this is what a dealer will charge.

There is no excess to pay if you are claiming from someone else's insurance.
