Skinny forever
Discussion
Well hopefully not but I just wanted to share my experience so far.
I’m 6ft’1 and despite eating everything in sight I have never weighed more than 68kg, in other words I’m skinny as f
k. That may sound innocuous to some people but the reality is its very unattractive, it’s the complete opposite of masculinity and it’s also a pain for buying any decent fitting clothes.
I’ve always been disappointed with my body in this respect although it’s never actually stopped me from going topless anywhere, even if my friends tell me I look like I have cancer or that I’ve come straight out of a concentration camp, charming I know.
Anyway earlier in the year I thought enough was enough and got serious about putting on some size. I’ve done a s
t load of research, I’ve radicalised my diet, got myself some weight lifting tuition and after a few months I can actually say it’s working. I didn’t believe it at first but now I’m over the moon.
In just a few months I am now up to a much healthier 78kg (although still quite lean), obviously a lot of that is fat but my muscles have just exploded in strength and size and I look a lot more normal.
A few friends have commented how I’m showing signs of a V shape physique, or have remarked on how big my chest is. One lad at the gym who is on the juice has called me a freak because a few months ago I was just skin and bone and now my biceps are bulging out of my shirt sleeves.
What I lacked in size I tried to make up in nice clothes but now 95% of my custom clothing doesn't fit, and I feel so much better for it.
My goal is to get to a clean 82kg and then just maintain, it'll take a while to be all muscle but going to the gym 3 times a week is one of the best things I've ever done.
Anyway I just wanted to share, cool story bro etc. But if any skinnies are reading, start eating and get lifting.

Good news - its always amazed me how so many people will drop the word skinny in without a problem, but would never call a woman fat...
And if you want to grow, brown rice is allegedly one of the best, if most boring, foods.
Stick with it and if you're not enjoying it, change your routine.

I'm currently on chemo for Hodgkins lymphoma, a type of blood cancer, not lost an ounce, currently on 13stone, was hoping it would help me lose a stone.
Thanks for the feedback.
I put most of that weight on in the first 6 weeks, obviously my waist line grew quite a bit so I dropped the calories down and now my body has balanced out but with my weight remaining the same.
I've been killing the big body compound movements although I'm struggling with unassisted dips and pull ups.
Despite the gains I'm actually still weak as f
k compared to some people in the gym, there are girls in there half my size who are dead lifting more than me.

Sorry to hear that, on both counts!

If you'll excuse the pun, can you expand on that?Eating the right sorts of food and in the correct quantities.
In fact I do a weeks worth of cooking at the weekend and then freeze the meals, much easier and no loss in taste or health.
I've just gone the other way. I'm 6' and was 12 stone. I've tried weights and just don't enjoy it. I put weight on but it just put pressure on me in ways that made me feel unhealthy.
I started running and stopped eating so many calories (and all that fast food) and I feel great now at 10 stone 5lb. It's my natural weight and I don't see any value in trying to make my body shape different to what it should be naturally.

Have you just been going for piles of calories for the fat or is it more complex than that? Then ample protein for the muscle element?
I make an effort to eat good clean foods but I don't shy from the bad stuff if the mood takes me ,and I only have 1x 25g protein supplement a day I get the rest from food. Mr Gearchange said:
Sounds like me. I'm 6' 3" and weighed 76kg. Through a lot of weight training and eating I got up to 84kg and looked great.
Problem was after 8 weeks of not training I wen straight back to 76-78kg. I frankly couldn't be arsed to train 5 times a week to maintain the gain.
Were your gains muscle or fat? I didn't think muscle would go quite that quick, but anyway if you dont use it then you lose it,Problem was after 8 weeks of not training I wen straight back to 76-78kg. I frankly couldn't be arsed to train 5 times a week to maintain the gain.
You shouldn't need to train 5 times a week though just to maintain!

While I agree with your last sentiment, I am so skinny its actually rather unpleasant and ugly.I started running and stopped eating so many calories (and all that fast food) and I feel great now at 10 stone 5lb. It's my natural weight and I don't see any value in trying to make my body shape different to what it should be naturally.
I won't kid myself that I will train 3 times a week for the rest of my life, but at the moment I'm enjoying it so I'll keep at it for the foreseeable future. It certainly boosts my self esteem and that a lone is worth it.
Hey, I didn't mean to sound critical of what you're doing. Whatever works for you.
From time to time I've worried about my body shape (when I was 5 my mother took me to hospital for tests because they thought I had some kind of disorder, I was that thin). For me I've tried bulking up and it wasn't for me and looking back I don't know why I felt the need to. Doesn't mean it will be the same for you, though.

OP,
I have a mate that was always sounding like you. Moaned he could never put on weight no matter what he did.
Turns out, he's coeliac. Now, he's slightly fat, bt admts it's from years of expecting to eat a million tonnes of whatever and not put on weight.
Have you checked there's nowt causing your skinniness? Ever feel like s
te after a bread fest?

I was skinny as a kid and teenager, joined the Army at 18 and put on 10kg of muscle and stayed the same all the way through. Within 6 months of leaving 6 years later I'd lost virtually all of it.
Even now much older, If I train and eat, I can have great gains, within months of stopping I'm back to the same again.
Could be worse problems of course...

6ft 1 and 68 kg.... I'm only 5 kg more than you and 6ft 3in!
I don't think I look skinny to the point of illness though. Then again I do do a lot of swimming and gym work, so what little muscle is there is at least in decent shape!
Like you though.... lots of food in. Not a lot of movement on the scales. Additionally, if I stop going to the gym, I drop weight again. At my best I was nearly 80 kg. But haven't had the time to do the volume like I did so the weights come off again. Don't use, you lose it I guess!
I thought I had it bad though, I have a friend who borrowed some boardies to come swimming one time. I have a 30 waist. They were hanging off him like they were 5 sizes too big. He eats like an absolute horse as well. No idea where it goes, I assume his metabolism is over 9000.

I feel where you're coming from, I'm 6'4" and naturally skinny. Gains are harder to make than for short wide people but as you've found they do come and you look better at the end of it!

Keep at the pull ups and dips, they'll come. I wouldn't worry about smaller people deadlifting more than you, tall and skinny is not a build that lends itself easily to lifting big weight especially if you have long legs. I started out deadlifting 52kg and it felt damn heavy, my current max is 142kg and improving steadily so it can be done though we'll never be deadlifting 1000lbs, leave that to the guys that look like dwarves from Lord of the Rings.Despite the gains I'm actually still weak as f
