Hello - possibly buying 2012 Audi TT :-)
Discussion
Hi - forum looks great, my first visit - also my first potential Audi
I'm looking at buying privately a 2012 Audi TT with low mileage - everything looks good, seller seems very straightforward etc - I don't mean to sound paranoid but just wondering if I should have some sort of professional appraisal of the car ?? looking for repaired damage, or anything unusual - is this a service the local Audi dealer would offer, for a price of course ?? Or AA/RAC ?? Also HPI I guess would be £20 well spent ?? Surprised the car hasn't yet had a service, even though mileage is under 20k, I thought it would need one every 12 months regardless of mileage. Any advice appreciated. Thanks & best wishes !! BoB

Which model is it? There's another thread running on here which includes some of the common issues, but there's a lot of info and advice http://www.ttforum.co.uk/index.php
Although servicing can be mileage based, at 20k you'd probably expect it to be due shortly, if not overdue. HPI is always worth it imho, and if you're worried about spending quite a bit of money, either get it checked or have a good warranty (check small print).
Oh, and hello

Hi Sticks & thank you for your kind reply - will certainly check out your TT forum - oh yes, always worried about spending money, especially my own :-) It's from a private seller so no warranty. Yes I'll do HPI. Re getting it checked out I was wondering if local Audi dealer would do that (for a price of course) I know they offer a free health check but whether that is thorough enough for my purposes I don't know. The obvious answer is to phone them of course :-) Or just maybe take someone with me who knows more about these things than I do. Thanks again & best wishes !! BoB :-)

Maybe you can find a local Audi (TT) specialist who would inspect it for you at their premises, assuming the car's owner is willing to take it there.Whenever I've bought cars privately, we've used the RAC check. They tend to run at about £100 per litre.
So a 1.8 Golf we looked at was £180, but the 2.3 V5 we bought ended up being £230.
Seems like a waste of money if the car checks out, but the last time we did it, it saved us thousands. With the cars listed above, it turned out the first car we viewed had been crashed and repaired. Badly. It was up for £6k and the RAC guy valued it at about £3k.
We'd put a deposit down on the strength of an RAC inspection so got that back and walked away and ended up buying the V5.
It's peace of mind...

Servicing can be mileage dependent but will be 2 years max regardless so a 2012 car should have been serviced at least once.
Audi recommend that if you do less than 10k a year then you go on the annual regime which mine has - 12 months or 9k miles. So if it's really low mileage it should probably have been serviced twice.
