hey wedges , I've been finding it hard to select gears this weekend , I don't think it's the clutch but not sure ....is there a plastic piece that helps the gear knob slot in to gear like a guide ?? I believe I had read something here in the past !on here ! any suggestions welcome

Hi mate...There are two in there i believe..Is the gearstick rattling around?...When its in gear can you wiggle the stick like its in neutral?..If so then the impossible to get nylon bush has failed...Ahhhhh...You just reminded me...Someone on here a while back said they have use of a CAD machine and there was also someone asking if anyone needed anything made as they have one also..Someone did post up the dimensions of the bush so maybe that would be a really good thing to connect the two...Other than that....Im not sure mate...

If the stick is stiff then it could be the pressure release plate sticking or the fingers on the cover plate might have lost their spring over the years...Although i think you would feel the latter though...

I just changed my fluids, gearbox oil and clutch fluid, and that made a huge difference in the feel of the clutch and the gear shift. If your fluids are old I would suggest changing them. If you do decide to change the gearbox oil I would highly recommend RedLine MTL oil. Two quarts are needed and you can buy it on Amazon.

I believe the box is a Type E as fitted to the Capri and the Sierra.

Try Bill at Dominion Spares....

or

http://www.teamblitz.com/

they currently have a clutch pressure plate for sale on ebay, so I'm sure they offer the disc and throw out bearing as well.

Wow! Unless I'm missing something the is a HUGE difference in pricing between Norm and Bill. The same clutch kit from Dominion was north of $200 (with shipping).

But if it is just that the shifting has gotten way sloppy, it's probably the delrin (white plastic) bushing. Easy DIY fix after you find one. I'd start with Norm or Bill as I don't remember where I got mine (Kip maybe?). There was a thread on it but like many things on PH, I'm sure it's gone. Grady

The previous owner replaced the bushing you refer too on my car and he said it really didn't make a huge difference. Obviously no two cars are alike but he felt it needed to be replace because at the 3rd gear position the gear stick was almost touching the handbrake. With the new bushing it was almost the same. He remarked it was a lot of effort for a very small change and was dissappointed.

I believe he got the bushing from Dominion Spares.

I have been supplying a four speed uprated lower bush, which fits from the top! Remove the gear lever, press in the bush, put in the gear lever! for the last 20 years for this gearbox.
